THOUGHT CRIME and the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses

The Watchtower Society and Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide are under the power and influence of a Governing Body of leaders.

Compliance with the directions of this Governing Body is mandatory because of their claim to supreme authority.

The source of the authority of the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses is claimed to be the currently reigning King Jesus who personally selected

them in 1919 after an inspection of all the christian deonominations on Earth.

    This is their assumption.

"The great snare of thought is uncritical acceptance of irrational assumptions."
    Will Durant

Any member of this religious group who dares speak critically of this arrangement is removed. Once outside the membership, Ex-JW members are

accused of the crime of Apostacy. Their writings are forbidden from current member's reading materials. Personal contact with them is verboten.

"Anyone who challenges the prevailing orthodoxy finds himself silenced with surprising effectiveness. A genuinely unfashionable opinion is almost never given a fair hearing."- George Orwell

Members in good standing with this religion totally accept only the writings and pronouncements of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society in its current publications. Although a great many doctrinal changes have occured over the decades the official version of its own history has been crafted to exonerate leadership from error, corruption or misguided mis-statement.

“The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became truth.”- 1984 Orwell

What is the difference between a Jehovah's Witness member and an Ex-member?

A Jehovah's Witness ceases originating thoughts about their own life, opinions, purposes or self-betterment. Instead, they accept the directed and approved thoughts as dictated by the Governing Body.

“Power is tearing human minds apart and putting them back together in new shapes of your own choosing." O’Brien, 1984-George Orwell

There is no place in Jehovah's Organization for the INDIVIDUAL. Approved members must become sheep and refer to themselves as "slaves" of Jehovah.

    "Freedom is Slavery"-Big Brother

In order to maintain standing with the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses the members must internalize a new vocabulary which is at odds with everyday usage and which re-defines such absolutes as "Truth", "Accurate Knowledge" and totally abstain from the ordinary day to day activities of professing Christains in other denominations. Further, they must denounce all non-Jehovah's Witnesses who profess Christ as satanically blinded and deserving of destruction. i.e. the Cross becomes "pagan" and the celebration of the Last Supper is only for the elite anointed class.

DOUBLE-THINK:Applied to a Party member, it means a loyal willingness to say that black is white when Party discipline demands this. But it means also the ability to believe that black is white, and more, to know that black is white, and to forget that one has ever believed the contrary. This demands a continuous alteration of the past, made possible by the system of thought which really embraces all the rest, and which is known in Newspeak as doublethink. Doublethink is basically the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.

Part II, Chapter IX — The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism: 1984-George Orwell

Jehovah's Witnesses are incessantly reminded they are in a life or death struggle with a superhuman enemy and that all the nations of the Earth are deluded by Satan. This will culminate in an actual war of Armageddon which is so imminent there is no need for creature comfort, higher education, the creation of stop-gap humane institutions such as hospitals or other charities. The are in an ongoing and intense struggle to declare their doctrines publicly. This work is of an exhausting nature inasmuch as more and more emphasis is placed on participation. The final reward will be watching nay-sayers slaughtered by Jesus.

There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed. But always—do not forget this, Winston—always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. .

—Part III, Chapter III, Nineteen Eighty-Four

For Jehovah's Witnesses, REALITY is only what they are told and exempt from skeptical examination or outside scrutiny or scholarship.

To THINK otherwise is THOUGHT CRIME!

Thinking for oneself is the worst possible act in the Watchtower Society because it is rebellion against Jehovah himself.

The destruction of the individual is the chief target of the Governing Body. That destruction begins with the tampering of words themselves. Words being the tools of thought.

Syme: It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. You wouldn't have seen the Dictionary 10th edition, would you Smith? It's that thick.
    [illustrates thickness with fingers]
Syme: The 11th Edition will be that
    [narrows fingers]
    Syme: thick.
Winston Smith: So, The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect?
Syme: The secret is to move from translation, to direct thought, to automatic response. No need for self-discipline. Language coming from here
    [the larynx]
    Syme: , not from here
    [the brain]

The automatic compliance of Jehovah's Witnesses with the dictates of the declarations, definitions and control of the Governing Body creates

a non-questioning, non-skeptical, obedient and loyal non-person quick to defend any and all demonstrations of refutational evidence.

    Resistance is futile.

To THINK is to dishonor Jehovah and declare one's self an enemy who must suffer annhilation at Armageddon.

    Reality=THOUGHT CRIME

To become not only incapable of questioning the merits of Watchtowerspeak but capable of denouncing those who do is to mindmeld with collective hive-think.

To live is to live for the Kingdom hall attendance.

To have personal problems is to betray your purpose in transmitting viral propaganda by burdening the load of door-to-door solicitations.

If every publisher shouldered the yoke placed upon them at Governing Body Central the weight of it would be a groan heard round the world!

Your so-called Spiritual Health is determined by how invisible you are as a person with creature needs.

As the ego shrinks into vanishing quietude and the jaw goes slack and the eyes dim into dead blankness like those of a doll a mighty victory is achieved by the Ministers of Propaganda otherwise known as the Governing Body.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the movie. The book is so much more powerful and is definetely a classic, even outside of the JW's.

For a thorough comparsion of the JW power structure and George Orwell's vision, try and get your hands on the below book:

I have only read a portion of this via Google Books, but it seems quite good.

I once asked my (former) best friend who is a JW (in good standing) why there were dinosaurs for millions of years devouring one another IF THE EARTH was made for man.

    His answer astounded me.

"I've got living creatures in my ass by the millions and I don't understand that either--but, it doesn't keep me from serving Jehovah!"

Talk about pulling an answer out of your ass!!

"In the world, there is a tendency to reject leadership. As one lecturer said: "The rising education level has improved the talent pool such that followers have become so critical that they are almost impossible to lead." But a spirit of independent thinking does not prevail in God's organization, and we have sound reasons for confidence in the men taking the lead among us." (The Watchtower, September 15, 1989, p. 23, §13)

There is no danger of Jehovah's Witnesses indulging in a higher level of education thanks to Watchtower caveats.

I would parallel what happens in a population when close relatives marry. The gene pool corrupts.

Same thing with the intelligence pool with JW's.

JW's are insulated from any ideas but the constantly recycled ones from the GB.

The history of JW's has been laundered and rewritten and so has the theology, the explanations and the excuses.

The "intermarriage" of corrupted ideas now is murky to the point of impenetrable.

The "Generations" explanation is not even an explanation but a stirring of sediment at the bottom of the pool so that the bottom-feeding rank and file will feel like something new has occurred.

What was your first thought crime? I'd say before my first official encounter with "apostasy", it was doubting about the anointed.

I felt, as a kid, that there was no way we could prove the anointed claimed to be what they were. We were just taking their word for it.

What was your first thought crime?

Asking questions which require uncomfortable answers!

Why is it okay to accept a blood transfusion if a Judge Orders it?

If a Judge ordered you to celebrate Christmas as a JW I highly doubt you'd comply!

    I love George Orwell.........

The dub of many years standing has had to change his beliefs whenever the WTS have told him to do so, even if he does not know why.

He used to believe it was a mortal sin to accept any part of blood, human or animal. Now, he does not.

He used to believe that the creative days were 7000 years long. Now, he does not.

He used to believe that the heavenly calling for the 144k ceased in 1935. Now, he does not

If he is old, he used to believe that the "Superior authorities " of Rom.13 were the heavenly powers. Now he does not.

    etc etc.....

Was this because he really thought that his prior beliefs were wrong? No. He was just told to change his thinking, not by God or Jesus but by the men of the GB..

    Talk about a sheep!
