Not that it is particularly pertinent to anything, did anyone catch the Today Show yesterday featuring Ted Williams (the Man with the Golden Voice) where he was reunited with his 90 year old mother? Seems Ted was raised in a very religious household with a JW dad, and mom couldn't understand how Ted could have grown up to be such a huge disappointment to the family. It just seemed an odd thing to bring up during a "poignant" reunion.

Gosh, I hope he doesn't crack under all the media pressure. Thanks to some positive, compassionate attention, he's got a job he loves, hugged his mom.
Now let him go on and live his life.

Mom seemed a bit harsh...not thrilled that Ted is trying to turn around, but more concerned that he will disappoint her again and not live up to his new opportunity for a second chance!...seems mom may have had a bit of JW mentality rub off on her.

I felt the same way as I watched the interview. It was SO painful and the mom was SO negative that I had to turn the channel. Not that I don't blame her for feeling that way. I am sure that she has seen his success in the past and watched him make the same mistakes over and over again. She even went so far as to say that she was ashamed of the sign that he wrote, that ultimately got him this national attention and the opportunity to re-create his life.
I wish him much success! Everyone deserves second, third, fourth and so on chances to get it right at life.

I agree jgnat...if they don't pull the limelight off of him, the pressure could push him back to the streets and that would be a real shame.

Yeah, I saw that, and the JW reference made lights go on in my head.

You can see that his nervous system is in high gear. He is rattled and stressed. He said he wanted a sedative and the psychologist at NBC helped him to breathe, meditate instead of medicate. His body is addicted regardless of what his mind says. The road he's on is going to either be a beginning or an end. I hope he finds people who will handle him with care. None of us know how much his addiction made him act cruelly to his family. He may well have been abusive, emotionally at least, of his family because of it. I hope they can forgive and support him to remain clean and benefit from this windfall.
