Only 72, it is a shame when relatives haggle over your money..but this woman could sing in a way that made your hair stand on end..I only wish that I could have seen her in live concert.

Blues Brother-
Thanks for posting the news , what a great talent. In saw her in a Motown Revue back in 67, Etta James, Marvin Gaye, and the Four Tops rocked the house that night.

I've seen her live several times over the last 20 years or so.
Her voice is a true gift, to all of us, from god.
I recomend her autobiography, "The Rage To Survive: the Etta James Story." She's had an amazing life.
I just love her. That's all. Just had to share that.

(Obama did her dirty when he had Beyonce sing "At Last" at that ball instead of Etta. That was just wrong.)

My mother had several of her albums. She (and eventually we) played them all the time. I think my sister stole one of them.
My fav songs are "At Last" and "Sunday Kind of Love".

about twenty years ago, Memphis in May, the traditional blues stage, one of 4 stages, up against the Mississippi River at Tom Lee Park, a warm wind blowing off the river. . . . . . Etta sang "Damn Those Eyes". . . . . .. about 50 of us standing in the audience. She picked me out to sing the hook "Damn Your Eyes" She knocked me back a bit every time, plus I could actually feel wind from the two enormous on stage speakers. . . .
