They skip my house. Why?? They are looking for spanish speaking victims...

I havent seen a JW come to our house for over a year, yet I see the Spanish Cong. out every month.

I feel for the Hispanics... I really do.. :)

Many of the JWs who have any sort of zeal for the ministry have joined foreign language groups and congregations. The English have been decimated by the language programs of the Society.

You can visit a Spanish congregation of around 45 people and they have 30+ pioneers. The English congregations they share the KH with have around 100 people and 3 or 4 pioneers each.

I never really understood the whole Watchtower scam 'till I found out recently that Witnesses have to purchase the magazines.

Quite sad to know that the only escape from this lifestyle is to lose all your family. Truly an evil org..

Worldtraveller, Um...They did away with purchasing the magazines YEARS ago. Where have you been? They are free at the hall now.

    Never been one. (A witness).

A friend from the past is one and he told me that he had to purchase them. That was 2007.

    My bad.

The literature has been freely available to congregation members for a long time. Things would go generally like this:

Super zealous publisher: Donate their own money for the literature, place literature, ask for a donation from the householder, pass along donation to the Society. Make return visits, always submitting two separate donations for the literature placed.

Above-average publisher: Place literature, ask for a donation from the householder, pass along donation to the Society. Make return visits, get more donations.

Average publisher: Place literature, forget to ask for a donation from the householder, never make a return visit.

Slacker: Forget to offer literature. Take a coffee break.

I thought there were still places (countries) where they charge for literature?

I know that a lot of publishers used to donate for the literature based on the old costs of the magazines. I remember several talks about the cost increase of the mags -- the old cost wasn't enough anymore.

Also I beleive that most of the people in the Spanish Congregations are really "English as a second language" and are not "english speakers looking for a more zealous congregation.

In North America there haven't been charges for literature since at least the 1990's. It's rare to hear a JW mention the donation arrangement in the ministry.
