while showing my daughter where to find the official JW website and JWfacts as well as my personal file on JWs,

she remarked while looking at the download page of watchtower and awake! at jworg

"they should all have iphones and ipads at the hall so you could just follow along on them"

Yeah, but then you couldn't highlight them so everyone can see how spiritual you are

Wow, highlighting a study article paragraph with color is a proof that one is more spiritual, did prepare before meeting. I think, that a wrong conception. Sigh

Last year during the CO visit I noticed that the CO's wife had an iPad or something, and she was looking up each scripture on it. She even used it to pull up scriptures fro her comments.

The WTS is slow to incorporate technology and even then it has to benefit the leadership, not the followers (which is why the GB have iPads for personal use)

I remember when the WT library first started coming out on CD (slow in that area as well). The friends were printing the scriptures relevant to the meeting parts and would have them along side their book/mag. When it started to become a trend, the CO instructed the elders to give a talk on not doing that. When looking up scriptures, we're supposed to actually look up scriptures in the Bible, not have them pre-printed.

They gave a list of reasons why it was preferred to look it up... one was basically for appearance sake. It wouldn't look good to new ones if they saw everyone reading scriptures from a printed sheet instead of from the Bible (at the time it made sense in JW-think, but later I realized it was just to save face in front of observers).

But the silliest reason was to not showoff our "material wealth" to others in the congregation. You could actually embarrass the poor old sister who never owned a computer or couldn't afford one and had to look up scriptures from her old worn out Bible while you had a pre-printed form from a fancy computer/printer...which begged the question; why bother releasing a CD of all the publications then?

But if everyone starting getting iPhones and iPads, I could develop an app that auto-highlighted the text. I would sell it for $1.99...

    Ad:

"Are you tired of highlighting your Watchtower? There's an app for that..."
