A confession app for your iPhone is just absurd. Can humans get any nuttier? But really...this is not a whole lot nuttier than confessing to a man dressed up in robes proclaiming to be your mediator between you and some supreme invisible being.

From your article, the app is intended as an aid to make a good confession, not as a replacement.

Either way, don't matter...absurdity. And of course, it's monetized.

It will be the Watchtower 2034 "new light" to use one of these.

The vatican said no way, never, no way. The bishop has been seriously rebuked. Face to face contact is essential.

It is, as the article says, a tool for "examination of conscience". It is not an app that performs or replaces a confession, it's a reminder note to help the penitent remember what they came for.

A reference to the source, please?

That is a matter of opinion. Admitting your sins to yourself is a major part of reconciliation. First you recognize the changes you need to make in yourself, then you can take action to make those changes happen. The first such action is seeking the grace to make those changes. The essence of the sacrament is that you declare your repentance and ask God's grace and assistance to do that. It is not a kangaroo court where they tell you what your sins are.
And of course, it's monetized.
$1.99? Give me a break, nobody is getting rich at that price. That is far less than the "suggested contribution" for a year's worth of Watchtowers and Awakes!

So, do you know what it costs to develop an iPhone app? It can range from $25,000 to $150,000 depending on the complexity. Twitterrific, for instance, cost $125,000. Now selling an app at $1.99, you would need to sell only 62,814 copies to recoup that development cost.
62,814 may sound like a lot, but when you consider how many Catholics there are it wouldn't take long to surpass that. Especially for an app that has "blessed" by a Catholic bishop. Pretty much sponsored by the Catholic Church.
So someone will likely make money off of people thinking they need a sin tracker to help be accepted by their "loving" god.

If you don't like it, unshackled, don't buy it. No one is being forced to buy it, nor is it even a requirement for a Catholic to use. It is just a tool; an electronic pencil and paper.

BTS...thanks for the tips. Just thought it was an interesting development to discuss. It has garnered a fair bit of attention in the media, heard a few radio programs discussing it. Some consider the idea of using your smartphone to track your sins comical. Heard a few comedians poke fun at it. And I agree, I think it is silly. Apparently, you do not. Got it.
