Not one for living in fear of "big brother" I was astounded to hear a young lady at aol ask me to verify some details and then procede to mention the site I last visited!

The problem arose when I needed to update my billing info. She asked all the usual questions and then when it got to the last 4 digits of my credit card... she said I did not have the right numbers... then it hit me, my card had expired and I was now using the new one with the new number across the front. Having destroyed my old one upon reciept of my new one. So I was in a pickle! She said it was fine and then said she would verify who I was through other means which she did. I then said the reason for my call was a little message had popped up on my screen saying I was about to be charged for this session (call charges). She informed me that was a mistake and it could have something to do with the website I was visiting! To which I said which website and she rattled off the adress of the last website I had been on!!! I immediately thought "Shit, if they can monitor all your activity on the net and have your personal details... WOW. What happens if a Dub works for AOL (or any other provider) and sees that Brother Joe Bloggs accesses this site...often!!! Where would their loyalty lie? I'm guessing they would not want the blood guilt of it all!!!! Personally I do not give a fuck about it, but there may be some who do!

Just a thought... will think twice before visiting www.thehun.com (warning ADULT content of every sort imaginable for free on this site) again!!

I think this is probably unique to AOL and maybe a handful of other online communities (MSN?) that use proxy services for Internet access. Normal ISP's don't monitor where you are going like AOL, at least good ISP's don't. AOL uses this information for marketing purposes.

    Britboy,

Your PC has a unique number by which it identifies itself to your ISP. Thats why apostates can't get on sites such as Greatcrowd.com, because they can track back to sites that you visit. Wont work to change your email addy either if you use the same PC.

    Bugger eh?

It's now called greatcrowd.net and they are not accepting new registrations for the time being!

That reminds me of an incident about a year and a half ago when I first got online I signed up for a free trial at Mcafee.com for hacker protection and recieved an E-mail from a man that said he was a concerned JW that had a job that allowed him to know what sites I visited and knew I had been visiting apostate sites and that he could help me if I had doubts or questions about the WBTS and would "keep an eye on me." I sent a complaint to Mcafee that day mentioning his name and that he was going to do this. I never heard back from him or the Co.
I had a surprise visit a week later from 2 elders to warn me of the "dangers of the internet and the temptation to begin independant thinking,Satan Adam and Eve did it and look where it got them?" I asked them when did they get the ability to began policing my mind. That shut 'em up.They also had computers with internet service(3 out of 7 elders did) I was the first MS to go online.(small southern town)...Coincidence? Not long after that I stepped down as MS.

I guess I must be really slow in this area about the WTBTS and
their monitoring web sites etc. Why should they care where any of us go or come from? I can see how they would want to try and keep track of where there MS, and Elders, and Overs's go and just that much is
really not nessesary. Why would they be spying on what we do or talk about? Like yoyomomma for example. What the F'k?? GEEeeesh! [:?]

most large organisations don't allow people to go through customers details willy nilly and part of the verification of who you are is tied with them accessing your account details. If a JW did this off their own bacj to cause trouble for someone it would have huge legal implications for AOL who I'm sure would kick their ass all over the place.

That must be why my inbox is always full of "f*uk me now" messages and breast enlargement pills.
