    From MSNBC:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41905394/

Half way down it states unemployment stats:

5% if you have a college degree

11.9% if you have a high school diploma

    17.9 if you have nothing

8.4% if you have some college or a two year degree

Like the GB says, having a college degree doesn't guarantee you will have a job (it just makes if far more likely that you will)

Considering the current hoopla, I found this rather interesting.

Friday's data confirmed a pick-up in manufacturing and a brighter job outlook for factory workers after a long, bleak stretch since the Great Recession began. Manufacturers added 33,000 more jobs than they cut in February. That brought the total net gains to 195,000 in a little over a year.

The construction industry hired back 33,000 jobless workers in February, after a drop of 22,000 during storm-battered January. Transportation and warehouse jobs rose by 22,000. Health care continued hiring, adding 34,000 jobs last month. Over the past year, some 260,000 new health care jobs have been created, roughly 22,000 jobs a month.

If you're looking for a job with state and local government — think teachers, police officers, sanitation workers, etc. — your prospects continue to worsen. Budget cuts eliminated another 30,000 state and local government jobs in February. Since peaking in Sept., 2008, local governments have cut 377,000 more jobs than they created.

I didn't see a stat for people over 55. Last I heard, we are worse off than anybody.

I am seeking a government position. They don't discriminate against disabled peple. In fact, there are some preferences. Very sobering statistics. Paul Krugman, the economics columnist for the New York Times, revealed that globalization will hurt those without skills disproportionately. New jobs are innovative. Being able to constantly reeducate yourself is a must.

We all know why the Witnesses oppose education and I believe it is not about jobs. Education might empower someone to read a Bible on their own. Quel horreur! Once I did, I had no doubt that they not only misrepresent but expressly lie.

While an active JW, I never understood why they were so anti-education. Of course, I was too brainwashed to think about it much. It was simply, "Well, I'm too busy with all of my JW stuff, so I don't really have time for education anyway" and that was pretty much it. Now I see why they are hammering on it so much. Because "education" and the environment surrounding it provide so many exits from the cult.

Like Band mentions, first you might begin to think on your own. That could lead to interpreting the bible on your own, or simply rejecting it as the basis of GB authority.

Then there are those pesky classes, which teach all kinds of things in opposition to literal bible interpretation. Science is a huge one, as is psychology, you might just realize your in a cult!

Then the environment. So many people having discussions which aren't controlled by what is printed in the latest WT. Religious and non-religious people from all over the world, all with different perspectives and interesting points of view. Its just so different from the local KH, no wonder the powers that be don't want you in that kind of environment!

Oh and then there of course is that degree you get at the end. Employers want and need you now, and that will lead to all sorts of problems like having a decent lifestyle with extra money that can be used for things like entertainment and vacation.

Of course the only job qualifications that the GB have are:

    • The ability to nibble crackers and sip wine once a year with a straight face.
    • Lie publicly, and call it truth.
    • Condemn education to anyone that will listen.
    • Have a penis.

Where else would you list that on a resume?

I've had the feelers out for a new job and gotten some interesting responses. I often get told I'm "overqualified", which probably means I'm too old, too experienced, too expensive, or all of the above. On the other side of the coin, I have tons of agencies calling me and trying to talk me into quitting my current job to accept entry level, 2 month contracts.

Are these headhunters completely clueless? I'm not likely to leave a job I've been at for 10 years for a "lesser title, less pay, no benefits, no pension plan, 2 month contract".

The IT field has really gone to shit. Maybe I should just go back to cleaning windows.

The story of my job search in one sentence.

The headhunters are not clueless, they just don't care about anything but there commission, which they get as soon as you take the job.
