Interesting. I wasn't aware of the exact timing for the blood issue--thought it was 1945. I was reading a WT from 1945 and they referenced a story of a Pope drinking the blood of three (I think it was three) boys in an effort to heal himself, and that the boys died, something like that? Every example given was from a time centuries before the circulatory system was even discovered. That, to me, is misinformation. Using it to support a ban on transfusion is apples and oranges.
I think after just realizing that plasma is 90% water, yet it is expressly forbidden for Witnesses, I could see that the whole premise makes no sense. The risks are highlighted and overemphasized and the threat of losing God's approval is there, too.
But...if God is going to kill you for using his creation, blood, to save your fellowman's life, then maybe you just need a new God. I hear Darkseid is available...
