Got my invitation today

An older fellow knocked on my door rather insisitently today and gave me an invitation to the memorial. I told him that I didn't mean to be personally offensive to him but he was in a cult and didn't know it, and that it destroyed families (I didn't want to be rude, but I did want him to know that I wouldn't simply take his invitation out of courtesy because he was being nice - I wanted to make the point that I'm on to what the WT is all about and I wanted to do it in a way that was unmistakeable). I said that's not what Christianity is about. He just chuckled and said, "Everyone has their viewpoint," and as he walked away I said, "It's sad that you would laugh at that," and he chuckled again and was on his way. I wanted to ask him what happens when you become a JW and your viewpoint changes, but he seemed anxious to move on. I wonder why.

I would recommend not using the term cult. Ironically that word will trigger their cult personality like no other word.

It used to be that JWs actually wanted to talk to you, nowadays they are just "hit and run" preachers.

I understand what you're saying, but I wasn't interested in "deconverting" him, only in shocking him with some "cold water".

Once the walls go up they are immune to all, even cold water

I know you are right, but I have so few encounters with them at my door I just couldn't help myself.

Poppers, they are use to being called a cult and have already convinced themselves that they are not.

I found his reaction very disconcerting chuckling over what you said was inappropriate. But I am glad you were forthright you stood by your principles even if the person you were talking to didn't appreciate the significance of what you were saying.

He just chuckled and said, "

That's my JW mom's response to anything you say that is negative about the cult, or her behavior. She just laughs at you like you're the idiot. I have told her many times how rude and dismissive it is, she doesn't care.
