umm...... many JWs I know always state how the Memorial Observance is the only thing that we "celebrate", but for the life of me, I can't remember our family doing any kind of celebrating other than going to the Kingdom hall and passing a plate of crackers and some Carlo rossi wine around. But maybe that was just my family.

Has anyone else back in the day remember having any actual festivities?

To be truthful...I'd have to say my family was good about trying to celebrate the Memorial (in the sense of trying to make the day extra special for us as kids back then)

My mom would take us out with many from the congregation after it was over at the hall and we would usually go as a group to either like a pizza hut or some other restaurant.

And she would always make sure we got new clothes for the occasion at this time of year.

I will always give my mom high regard for trying as best she could to make us feel special as well as this be a special day.

In UK I always felt the whole evening was an anti-climax, just went home afterwards and put the TV on. In Spain we at least went as a congregation for a meal together. There wasn't any-one to "respectfully observe" nibbling and sipping so that was when I first started seeing the whole thing as a bit odd.

Edit: I have changed from IE to firefox and I can't get into my old account. It's still me though!

I think at one time we used to go to a restaurant after with other Jdubs but I think the WT might have discouraged it.

The CO at one time told everyone they had to go sraight home after the Memorial no stopping off for pizza as it was a sing of disrespect that stuck for years around where I live and so it pretty much put a damper on doing anything expect going out door to door in the morning.

Really it was just a big day of stress.

Don't the JWs ask why the Jews are celebating the first night of Passover tomorrow night and not tonight? Maybe, the WT set the date for the memorial one day too soon and tomorrow night when Jesus is watching , he will find the KH's empty.

The memorial has never been a celebration for our family. Or any of the congregrations I've been in through the years. It's actually like going to a funeral. It always struck me as odd that we are told that the memorial is to celebrate the death of Jesus... yet only a small few would ever partake. I've never seen anyone partake, I've heard of ones that did, but if they did they were sitting in the back room or somewhere inconspicuous.

Anyway, it's a Satanic ritual that they twist into their own "truth". It's a cult after all.
