Maybe I just don't pay enough attention at meetings, which is a serious possibility. Of the supposed 144,000 thousand JW's that are supposed to go to heaven, how many have there been thus far? What happens if their number surpasses that 144,000?

:So how many annointed are there...

    Zero.

:..and how many supposedly are left?

    That would be zero.

    How many unicorns are left?

@Farkel: Lol. thanks for that. I guess what I meant is how many do they BELIEVE there are? And how many do they believe should be left. Regardless of individual preferences.

LOL.....I went with my mother, FOR my mother last night.

The 'speaker' said there were 11,000 last year.

I started laughing, people looked at me. Ummmmm, there were 8,000 when I gave the talk a few years ago.

Apparently, they are coming back from heaven LOL LOL

But the funniest comment of the night was when the 'speaker' read the daily text ......where it stated that the evil does hanging next to Jesus KNEW about a paradise earth..... that's right KNEW about the paradise earth.

WTF??? He had just got done asking Jesus if he was in fact King of the Jews.....how did he know about a paradise earth? Didn't the JW's start preaching that hope around 1935???

Totally insane. Not one person even flinched.

I didn't listen at all during the Memorial. But 11,000 seems like a lot. How many are there supposedly per yr?

Apparently, they are coming back from heaven LOL LOL

    ^HHAAHA! funny :)

The only comment I really heard by the speaker was "exercising" faith.

I am now almost sixty. My great grandfather was of the generation that considered themselves of the remnant. It was unthinkable and scandalous for my grandmother's genenration to be considered remnant. They accepted they were of the Great Crowd. My great grandfather lived into his 90s. The Witness anticipation at the time was that when the last of them died, the big A would come.

This was never preached. I never saw it written. All my family members and other Witnesses shared this view. Something happened, obviously. I can recall when our wacky overseer declared he was remnant. We almost fainted literally. We expected Jehovah to strike him dead.

Part of it is funny. When my greatgrandfather lived with us for a while, I bonded as a young child. He was Dutch and had a dog named Curly, whom he gave beer to drink. Curly and he were very tight. The family discussed how he would be in heaven, ruling with Christ. I could see him heaven but not ruling. Later, as I developed, I became worried that since he was in heaven he could see me bathing and changing my clothes. It freaked me. I wanted him in heaven and hence, alive because I loved him. The privacy aspect was not worked out in my mind. I worried that Curly might be just dead. Curly should have been part of a dog remnant.

During the late 1960 's the number was around 5000 I think. It does not seem to make sense that the annointed should increase.

Well lets see, Maybe God gave adam and eve A free pass (first annointed)

Then we have Noah and has group, 20-100 maybe,(thier offspring)

Abraham and his group, A few hundred .

Joseph,s, his group maybe A thousand or more.

The numbers should jump with Moses, A few thousand.

Then we have the twelve tribes ( I know this is figuratively

but we should be able to get at least fifty thousand)

Then we come to Jesus and Paul day and time. So another

    fifty thousand.

So from my calculation, there should maybe two or three left.

Two or three seem very generous! If the "number was sealed" by 1935, there really shouldn't be any left. Assuming that in order to be annointed, one would need to be baptized and mature in the truth, then the youngest of the annointed remnants should have been in their twenties or thirties, I would think. Under ideal conditions, that would put them at or over 100 years old. Not that it's impossible for humans to reach that age, but it is highly unlikely that one of these would ones would still be around.

Here's what I found on an internet search:

Recent estimates show roughly 450,000 centenarians worldwide. With the world's population currently at over 6.8 billion, that would make the figure .006% or six thousandth of one percent.

Even if 10,000 snuck in under the wire in 1935, that leaves only about a 50% chance that ONE of them could still be alive.

    *** w61 12/1 p. 721 par. 38 United Against Nations in the Valley of Decision ***

That year (1925) the number who participated in celebrating the Memorial of Christ’s death as members of the remnant was reported as 90,434. (The Watch Tower, Sept. 1, 1925, page 263)

    ------------------------

From 1920 on the WTS had preached the end was coming in 1925...so the largest number "celebrating" was 90,434 in 1925. Of course, the end did not come and the numbers dropped by around 60,000.
