I watched this last night - fantastic movie! Colin Firth did an amazing job, as did his co-star.

I'm an Anglphile and Francophone. There was some criticism that it was too British empire and feel good. My brother has a stutter from cerebral palsy so it truly tugged at my heartstrings.
Deserved the Oscar. Geoffrey Rush was superb, too. As was Helena Bonham Carter. I heard no publicity about it before its release.

Many years ago I heard a recording of that speech and always wondered why it was delivered in the way it was. Now I know.

I loved it too. I understand they could not make it before the Queen Mother died. I understand her husband died young due to the pressures he had to assume because of his irresponsible brother. I understand now why Queen Elizabeth II did not want her uncle and his wife to come to the UK.
I had about 12 years of speech therapy growing up due to a temporary hearing loss when I was very young. No problems now but I still remember the exercises.

I too had to deal with an abusive father.

I really want to see it, but I can't stand Helena Bonham Carter as an actress. Same thing with Natalie Portman as to why I haven't seen Black Swan yet.
While I'm on my rant, I'm sick of avoiding movies that I really want to see due to the fact that Mark Wahlberg is in EVERYTHING. How is this waste of celluloid still getting all of this work? He sucks! I call it the Kevin Costner Syndrome. How did that guy ever get a role in anything? He's terrible!

Geoffrey Rush went out with my stepsister many years ago. He was impossibly shy, being from a farming background. He joined a theatre group to get some confidence. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw him collect an Oscar!! Checked his internet profile (which is incorrect on many points) OMG! What a great example of how we as humans can recreate ourselves if we are determined...

i go to the cinema about once
in two years, and the this film
was definitely worth the trip!!that one little clip, when george Vl
is addressing the nation, during a
pause where louge mouths and
mimes "fuck fuck fuck" is priceless!!!the lines about the king's earlier therapists >>
louge: they're idiots
king: they are knighted
louge: well that makes it officialclassic line!
i love that the discovery of louge's notebooks
influenced the final screenplay barely 2 months
before filming began... -
