Silly question for any moms out there with elementary school kids...

Due to my dub upbringing I am SERIOUSLY holiday impaired. I know this question is going to sound REALLY stupid, but here 'goes anyhow

You know when the little kids in elementary school pass out Valentines to each other? Well I was wondering, do the little boys only make out valentines for the little girls in the class and vice versa, or do they make them out for the whole class?

    Thanks

    Hey Between,

My kids are 8 and 10. Usually, they make out cards for everyone in the class. My son always picks something 'manly'LOLOL...Star Wars cards generally go over pretty well with him.

    Hope that helps!

    Dana

P.S. Both of my kids always receive valentine's from both boys and girls. Ain't it fun trying to figure all this holiday stuff out??

    Yep, yep, yep!

Enough cards for the entire class. In grade school, a class list generally comes home with all the names. Your child is encouraged not to leave anyone out or not do any at all, rather than to have any hurt feelings.

My kids used to received valentines and candies for years without sending any. That just sucked!

Yes!!!!! Something finally that I know about. lol I have ALWAYS celebrated holidays!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I agree with what the others say. A valentine for everyone in the class so there are no hurt feelings. The boys do tend to want the manly ones and if you read them they are more about friendship than romance. Its kind of funny, as they get older, they will kinda sneak a bit nicer, or more romantic one to someone they "like".

In grade 6, Birdie got 2 very mushy Valentines in the mail from boys with crushes on her. They gave her the usual friend ones at school and the mushy ones at home. It was so funny and she was scarlet and mortified and chucked them in the garbage....... and snuck them out again later.

She is in grade 9 now, and hands out foil wrapped chocolate hearts to all her friends, male and female on Valentines day. She is also preparing a mushy card and gift for her JW boyfriend and she is expecting something back. I sure hope that he comes through, but then again if he doesn't, maybe they will break up. Nope, somehow he gets away with it....sigh....he will give it to her late, then it isn't a Valentines present anymore, right?

Hi BetweenWorlds, (BTW, I like your name; it really says it all)

I have 2 boys, 6 and 14, and have had the teachers who gave out class lists so that no one was forgotten and have had the teachers who didnt want anyones name on the cards so that you made sure that no one was left out by accident...those teachers just made sure you knew how many kids were in the class so that you could send that many to be passed out.
The other thing that can be nice is that often in the younger grades of elementary esp. teachers allow/encourage parents to bring in treats for the kids such as valentine cookies or cupcakes. I always liked doing this because it gave me a chance to do something out of the ordinary for my son's class.....sort of make up for the first few years he wasnt able to partake in any way when other kid's mom's would come in and do special things.

    Sincerely, Windrider

    Outnfree,

Thanks! Yeah I remember getting valentines in school as well Been so long now can't recall if they were from the boys and girls hehehe! (dating myself!)

    Concerned mama,

LOL!! kewl. That's a cute story about your daughter
About your daughters boyfriend, has he gotten her anything for valentines before? Witnesses are so funny in that regard. It's just like at thanksgiving...so many prepare a turkey and all the fixings, but just have it a day before or a day after then they can say they aren't celebrating the holiday! [8>]How silly!

    Windrider,

Thanks for the your kind words. Yup, I feel very much in between two conflicting worlds. They are slowing meshing though, and I'm feeling stronger all the times Thanks for the tips about the snacks, that's a good idea.

    You all are the best.

Thanks again for saving this poor confussled mom!
