    When you were shunned by family members, did you feel as though Jesus had brought a sword into your family?

    Matthew 10:34. "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.

    35 "For I have come to 'set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law';

    36 "and 'a man's enemies will be those of his own household.'

    Or, how about when you realized that WT was not God's Organization, and you simply wanted to have a rational discussion of the available evidence with your loved ones?

    I've been thinking about this considering my own situation. I'm not shunned, at least not at this time, but depending on how I play my cards it will happen. The different scenarios have been playing out in my head, and this verse comes to mind often enough. As someone who still believes in Jesus, but not the Watchtower, this verse seems prophetic. Really you should include verse 37 to add some extra oomph to the seriousness of familiy situations affected by this loving religion.

    37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

    What is the true meaning of those scriptures? I can see how the WT can use them to justify shunning one's own family.

    Like most passages, it's up for interpretation. Wikipedia covers several common interpretations at the link below.
