The spirit of religion

In my post Witness life, and contact with people of several faiths, I have come to know a part of religion that I think is missing in the Witnesses. This part is the spirit of the religions. Spirit being, the energy, or the cosmic force connection that most religions highlight and strive for. Maybe it could be best be described as feeling God, angels, spirits and miricals. Basically, you sense or channel a connection between your physical world and the spiritual world.

I know Witnesses pray, and pray and pray. Yet they also have a lot of fear about anything that can not be physically touched or felt. If a spirit was seen, an angel or anything that could be there to help them. Their closed minded feeling about religion, would have them yelling out help from Jehovah and never grasp that such a being, feeling, etc. Could actually be that help from the spiritual side of the being. The mere idea of such a thing is feared, scorned and talked against in all forms. Even stories of such events are often doubted, and heavily questioned behind the backs of those who shared them.

Face it! Due to your Witness connection or upbringing, you saw people who spoke of such things as a little insane or perhaps unstable. If an elder, or overseer spoke in such a way to such an extreme. The could have been removed, considered to be losing respect and basically told to keep those thoughts private. However, almost all religions have a spiritual connect to the life spirit and spirit realm. Like it or not, when you have a strong enough faith and awareness of it. It interacts with you, becomes a part of you and in my opinion it also directs you or at least it tries to help.

Some say an open mind is Satan's playground. But a closed mind is also perhaps the realm of the cults, the controlers and those lost in life. What do you think, or what have you experienced. Have you too, noticed this glaring difference in the Witnesses? This lack of any openness to spiritual connection, this fake faith in what they themselves profess is there. I think it is something we see, but maybe we just have not put our finger on it yet. Like we know something is not the same, but maybe it feels more right now in any faith you choose.

I was also thinking, do Witnesses actually think a prayer is answered?

I hear you. I think many religions have a form of godliness, but deny its power. I think many religions tend to stifle the spirit under rules, under what is said is possible or is not possible. People can be just as close-minded inside religion as outside of it.

Of course, I have limited experience in "religion".

It is like there is no SPIRIT in their belief system. Just words.

I agree w you, free2. What w all their talk, they are an empty religion. The rituals in other religions, which the wt criticises, are important as aides towards the spiritual for the parishioners. Where they came from, or the doctrines of the leaders are secondary. The rituals are the medium, so to speak.

'Spirit being, the energy, or the cosmic force connection that most religions highlight and strive for.'

Once the connection is established, the need for the religion that helped you get that connection diminishes. Doctrine isn't that important. It's like learning to walk. Once you have learned, you don't need the person that helped you to learn. The jws never even get on their feet. They are imprisoned in their cribs.
