Had lunch with an old friend, still a JW. Regarding her son's education, she told me he does very well in all of his subjects, but she doesn't push him. She tells him to just pass his classes, get out, graduate, get a part time job and........... wait for it............pioneer. I am so glad my brother who is still a kinda sorta JW doesn't subscribe to this school of thought.

On a funny note, I push college every time I see my nephew (my brother's son), who is a junior in high school. He joked that he could be the millionaire CEO of a very successful company but if he didn't go to college first I would still beat his butt. He is correct. College isn't just about graduating and getting a good job. It's about learning to think critically, taking elective classes where you can learn about art, music, history, etc. I think college helps make you a more well rounded individual. Anyway, so sad to get a first hand account of a JW dumbing down her child and depriving him of a higher education and a decent life. Grrrrrr.....

Did you not feel free enough to give your view on college ? It may have given your friend pause, and benefitted her child for life.

Wimped out wobble. She and I were best friends when we were teenagers. She got married to an a**hole JW, I started fading. Guess I didn't want to upset the apple cart. I hadn't see her in years up until recently. That being said, I should have spoken up. Her poor son.
