I recall about 25 years ago that at the District Assembly, it was mentioned that the fulfillment of the declaration of "Peace and Security" was made by President George Bush (Sr.)

Was this just a verbal thing or was there anything written in any of the publications about it at that time?

I recall one year that the United Nations declared the Year of Peace -- seems like it was 1981 or 1982.

    Anyone?

I think that was 1986 and yes, the WT made a huge deal about it. I remember everyone thinking 'THIS IS IT!!!'

The International year of peace certainly got the cult talking. Especially all the religious leaders uniting in prayer. I remember that many thought ot was significant. There were a number of reference to that year, and a picture of the religious delegates on the front of the magazines, but I don't recall them blatently saying that it was the fulfillment of the "Peace and Security" prophecy.

There are numerous times that the WTS. has said in talks and publications, see they announced Peace and Security,

this surely is prophetic that we are living in the last days of this system of things , shit they may even say it again

in this summer's District Conventions. Thats just one of many on going exploitive and manipulative proclamations to put people into

state of fearful delusion and control. Unfortunately if one studies history you'll find that this proclamation was made many times over by

rulers or government officials, throughout biblical times and into the middle ages.

When all you've got is ignorance, you need fear to support it.

Let's not forget 1974, when President Nixon resigned and, in his inaugural speech, the incoming President Gerry Ford promised, "truth, peace and security." Those words formed the headlines in a major newspaper, which I believe I still have a copy of somewhere. The Witnesses, of course, went nuts.

they held their breath, and I knew a few very intelligent Dubs who played along with it quietly for some time, only problem was the "sudden destruction be upon them" never happened and that's why the clever ones dumped it disappointed. My old PO loved it as well as the "preaching work would be completed by the time of the millennium" he moved shortly after with egg on his face.

My next answer to why I left will be, "Expectation postponed is making the heart sick."--some Bible verse.

I remember all the talk about 1986's year of peace.

I thought it was going to happen then.

I missed this completely. Don't even know the reference.

Doesn't "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times" count?
