Today I got to thinking about a cross country road trip. Ive traveled 700 miles in a car before. Thats the furthest Ive driven in America. Then I thought maybe I should try a walk across America. Maybe get a charity to sponsor it. Of course Im going to put some thought into this before I would do it but really, why not? I dont have a wife or kids. Ive always wanted to do something different and out of the ordinary. What do you guys think? Is that something that you've wanted to try?

I read an article about a Vietnam Vet with no legs walking across America on his hands. Took four years. Its inspiring to say the least.

If you've got the time and money to do it I'd say go for it. If it were me I'd consider using a bicycle instead of walking. You can cover a lot of ground on a bike in one day. Last summer I did a 5 day 300 mile ride, and it was a blast. I'd like to do it again this year if I can get my lower back into good working order again.

Two years ago, my grandson, who was 14 at the time, walked from Orlando, Fl to Washington DC to call attention to the plight of homeless children. He stopped at shelters along the way to talk to homeless children. He raised money and supplies for all the shelters he visited.

Here is his blog about the trip http://helpingstepbystep.blogspot.com/

    and a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfJ1akwWfxo&feature=player_embedded

It was an amazing experience for him. It was his idea, and he accomplished it with the help of family and friends.

I'll be riding my bike across Canada starting in Victoria, BC (0 KM) and ending up in St. Johns, Newfoundland (0 KM). I'll be leaving in the middle of June. I say go for it. I've done other cycling trips and there is nothing like seeing a country in slow motion. Plus the generous and cool people you end up meeting along the way.

    MrFreeze,

David had people laugh at him too... and there were some people who threw stuff at him as he walked... and there were some threats. He walked right on through all the negative stuff, and made it to his goal. It is an experience that he will never forget, and one that helped him grow and mature.
