You see all those people affected by these terrrible storms.

It makes you think that thanks to Mitt Romney's Statewide Health Care plan, at least the people in Mass. were better off when they had to go to the hospital than the folks in the South.

    Best think again.

State Insurance != better health care delivery.

    Simple economics.

    http://www.bostonherald.com/news/opinion/op_ed/view/2011_0510romneycare_proves_failure

...a new report by the Massachusetts Medical Society finds that “more than half of the state’s primary care practices are closed to new patients, while the practices that are still accepting patients have increasingly longer wait times.”

.... Generally speaking — and it varies based on the kind of doctor — our wait times are about twice as high as the rest of the U.S., and the problem has gotten worse under Romneycare.

“Massachusetts is learning a basic lesson in economics,” Peter Suderman of Reason magazine told me yesterday. “More coverage does not equal more care.” Suderman, who has been covering Romneycare for years, says nobody familiar with simple economics should be surprised at the results.

This is Amurrica, Gol durn it!

We leave our wounded to bleed in the street! Toughens 'em up!

Not like those pinko-Euro-commie-Socialist wusses who think sick people should get medical care regardless of their ability to pay.

I live in Alabama, and one of the places that I spent a great deal of my college years in was absolutely demolished by the April tornadoes. Nothing left but debris and dirt all up and down the street, from within a well-developed area. A place where many memories over the years were shared by myself and others, then completely evaporated within an hour.

Just wanted to throw that in.

were better off when they had to go to the hospital than the folks in the South.

If they don't die waiting! Good use universal coverage will do if you're dead.

The average wait times for appointments in Boston for cardiology are 21 days, dermatology 54 days, obstetrics-gynecology 70 days, orthopedic surgery 40 days, and family practice 63 days.

The average cumulative wait times for the 5 specialties just mentioned are,

    Boston, 50 days

    Philadelphia, 27 days

    Los Angeles, 24 days

    Houston, 23 days

    Washington, D.C., 23 days

    San Diego, 20 days

    Minneapolis, 20 days

    Dallas, 19 days

    New York, 19 days

    Denver, 15 days

    Miami, 15 days

    Portland, 14 days

    Seattle, 14 days

    Detroit, 12 days

    Atlanta, 11 days

Boston is dead last. Looks like you'll have a better chance of speedy care in one of them Southern places.

What do you do, just come up with the answer you want and scour the net looking for support of it? Your Op Ed by a rather unsavory Republican radio talker is hardly reliable info. Last time I made an appt. with my doc it took over a month. I have fantastic insurance. And what is the point here exactly? If everyone is able to get care, the docs will be too busy, so screw the poor?

We have an abundance of Drs here is Missouri. You can get in the same day to see a specialist if you shop around..
My daughter in Illinois had to wait almost a month to see a specialist..go figure!

Not sure if my memory is correct but it sees like years ago insurance didn't cover any "natural disasters"..like tornados or floods..If lightning struck your house that was a act of God's..not covered..if your house burned down and it was because you were negligent, you weren't covered..insurance was a lot cheaper then..

I remember an insurance agent telling me years that I wasn't covered for flood insurance and I had to get flood insurance to be covered..

And it certainly didn't cover the sewer backing up in your house...
