I noticed this last night:
Page 33, paragraph 5 - page 34 of the "Benefiting from Theocratic Ministry School Education" book says:
"Convincing calls for giving reasons why a thing is so, including presentation of evidence. Refuting requires a thorough knowledge of both sides of an issue along with careful analysis of evidence used." (Bold Mine)
I'll be sure to point to this if the hammer ever comes down on me for reading "apostate" materials. What a bunch of malarky.
The JWs only analyze the arguments against their carefully scripted householder presentation, like John 1:1 - any extraneous subjects that come up at the door are off limits for JW research, in as much as what can be found (if anything) in the WT CD is all they can safely look at.
Sweet holy damn I used to eat this stuff up - "see, we always examine both sides". Yeesh what a maroon... 
Hi dontplaceliterature, can you post a images of those pages on-line? It could be great evidence to present in a JC that a JW was just following WTBTS direction to read apostate literature to refute what an apostate says. LOL

This is why they don't want their members in college. Students actually learn how to conduct research, using peer reviewed sources from many perspectives. And, above all, they learn how to quote in context with proper citation. It was an eye opener for me when I started writing research papers.
It's simple really . . . you research both sides of the issue . . . as it is presented by the WTS in it's literature. After all . . . they have most JW's convinced that Evolution means "men come from apes" . . . I've seen it time and again on this board. It' just more mind-controlling crap!
They can say it without meaning it. The mindset must have affected my whole life. Maybe I react against it. Conformity is such a high value. Individuality is squelched.
If you actually research both sides, you will not want to stay a witless. So, they use their own littera-trash to research "both sides". Too bad the "other side" is biased.
