I had a letter today from the idiot JW "friend" back in Wisconsin who was spreading all the gossip about us and she said something that is so stupid, but yet so JWish. She said that "Even if it were to turn out that everything the Society has taught is wrong and Armageddon never comes, the Organization is still the best place to be." People with that mindset never will wake up. My daughter-in-law said it is because some people NEED to be led. They don't want to think and make decisions. They don't want to be responsible. No doubt if they had been told to kill themselves to follow a comet, a good many of them would have. I have cut the last ties to people in the Borg and my son and his family have finally come to the conclusion that they have to do that also. It is the only way to move on. Because they were still "friends" with some, they were not comfortable doing birthdays or holidays. They were not living their lives the way they wanted. He couldn't tell any of them that he takes Kung Fu and loves it and is doing extrememly well at it. They finally had their fill. "The End" has come. It feels damn good!
Your daughter-in-law's comments about "they NEED to be led" aptly describes the mindless devotion that marks a good number of JW's. With the other JW's, I suspect it's a feeling of superiority over "the world", illusionary though that feeling is, that gives them kind of a 'high' feeling of which they don't want to let go.
GopherWhy shouldn't truth be stranger than fiction? Fiction, after all, has to make sense. Mark Twain (1835-1910)
Some people are just afraid to think for themselves. That is how all religions get to their followers and screw them up. The Watchtower just seems to have perfected the practice.
I feel that those who are too afraid to think for themselves feel if they end up doing wrong, then they aren't to blame. After all, they were just doing what they told to do. Be it paradise, heaven, or wherever we may end up after we die, that attitude will get them in safely, I believe.
Many people want others to be responsible for their actions. And, the WT eats that crappy attitude up. In fact, they have gotten over six million to follow them that way!
If God's Spirit is filling a Kingdom Hall, how is it that Satan can manuever the ones within that Kingdom Hall at the same time?
Target, I have to congradulate you and your family on your decision about "the end". That comment your friend made is definately assinine....and a comment I've had thrown at me recently as well, by a JW woman who is still 'friends' with me. Everytime we get into a discussion about the borg, which she most often initiates, she asks me why I left, and why I don't think it's the truth. I offer valid points of reasoning, I show her the errors right out of the JW bible...hard, solid fact. And her reply is always the same...better in the org than in the world. Yet, this wonderous organization has broken her entire family apart, and the elders have done nothing to stop it, nor have they provided any type of help. I guess some Dubs will never come out of that mindset. Such a shame. But I am glad that you have come to your own conclusion on the matter (:))
