How will the world end? Here is Robert Frost's opinion in his poem, Fire And Ice.
Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I've known of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice.

I take this stanza to mean that the writer finds passion fiery, and would be happy to die in a passionate state.
But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate
The writer is saying that even passions can turn to hate.
To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice
That the passion felt when it once was fire was worth the torment of the cold hatred at its' death. To the writer, it meant no difference.
Poetry is open to interpretation, as it should be. In this poem, my thoughts are with yours. I tried too, and I have the same or similiar interpretation.
