Watchtower’s Enlightenment — And Then Comes Blood

Recently my blog presentations have peered into tall tales of demonism published by Watchtower. What is my point?

See the article Watchtower’s Enlightenment — And Then Comes Blood available at: http://marvinshilmer.blogspot.com/2011/06/watchtowers-enlightenment-and-then.html

Those ridiculous tales told by Watchtower offer comic relief, which is fine. But there is a very serious side to those presentations that bears remembering and sharing.

    Marvin,

Do you know whatever became of Randy Jensen whose correspondence re: blood with the O has been published all over the net? Is he still in? Been DFed or DAed? The correspondence (some of which you quote in your most recent blog) ends in 2003 with his resigning as an elder. Sort of leaves the reader hanging...

Marvin, I just want to thank you for all you do. I usually don't comment on your threads, because, to be quite honest, I can't bring myself to read much of anything written by the Watchtower. It actually makes me physically ill. But there are many who can still stomach the stuff, and you do a fine job of bringing Watchtower nonsense to the forefront.

I like the way you set that up Martin. So much for the credibility of the faithful and discreet slave. One minute they're preaching about a substance humoured about in Ghostbusters, the next minute they're playing doctor and sacrificing JW children to their erroneous misinterpretation of what ancient writers meant when they said to abstain from blood.

Ah. So THAT was your point! I mean, it was just insane, to read all that stuff, but now that I think of it, you make a very excellent point.

I was reading a Watchtower from 1945 or so that reported on the first "blood transfusion"--a person DRINKING blood, at a time long, long before the circulatory system was even discovered. Yet this was presented in such a way that the uninformed would've had no idea. The position they took regarding this issue in the years thereafter--as evidenced in the early '50s Watchtower responses to readers who wrote in about the issue--was that of the schoolyard bully who made a rule and would just dare anyone to break it.

It makes sense, then, that the DF'ing arrangement, along with the Society's admonition to those who they kicked out ("Get out and die with Satan's system" were the exact words, as I recall), showed up not that long after the blood doctrine.

It has become abundantly clear to me that those 'taking the lead' were seriously, SERIOUSLY unstable people who probably needed a padded cell where they could write this stuff on the walls in crayon if they wanted. But not to be in charge of a worldwide religious entity. I can't believe I trusted them as long as I did.

Anyway, thanks for your series of threads, dude. Excellent stuff.

Couldn't tell you. But another elder who wrote similar letters in 2006 ended up disfellowshipped.

I completely understand, and you are not alone. It will get better, though.

    You're welcome, and thanks.

It's scary to think about, isn't it.

thx for the reply. Any info on this other elder from 2006? Perhaps available on your site? Elsewhere?

    aristeas,

The only thing I am at liberty to share about the elder from 2006 is what is found in his letter dated that year. You can read his letter at my blog title To An Elder — 2006 Watchtower letter on blood available at: http://marvinshilmer.blogspot.com/2011/01/to-elder-2006-watchtower-letter-on.html
