Finally received a call from the insurance adjuster yesterday. He offered two options:
    1. Take a check for $3205
    2. Take a check for $2309 and keep the truck.

Both of these options are out of this world generous, considering the fact that the blue book value for my truck is only $1990, and I had fully expected to have to get my lawyer to get that out of them. The truck is all messed up underneath, because my right front wheel was smashed in pretty bad and the whole frame was bent really bad. Needless to say, I chose option 1. I consider this a blessing from God. Now all I have to do is find a cheap reliable vehicle!

What do you think? Fraud or blessing? Shouldn't this chapie ask for his cheque to be reduced to $1990 AND give the insurance company his truck?

If the guy truly relies on j like elijah did, as compared to his servant, gehazi, then money means nothing to him. He could tell the ins company to keep ALL the money, for j would provide for his servant. But refusing payment in excess of 1990.00 is the LEAST he could do. On the other hand, apostate devil worshipping pagans such as myself can do anything we want, but funnily enough, are inexplicably honest.

BTW, did you manage to come away from the celtic business meeting wieghing the same or more than you did before the meeting?

Hey E-man: It is neither fraud nor a blessing from - Gawd! The Blue Book is an "Opinion" of value, not the Word of God. Opinions of value are based on real market trends and averages, adjusted for features. Most importantly, Blue Book prices are what Dealers will pay for a vehicle.

In getting a loan on my car many years ago, the Bank pulled out a Red Book (same Seal and Logo as the Blue Book) but it had different prices than the Blue Book. They base their loans on some percentage of that Index.

Unless the Insurance Adjuster was in diliberate collusion with the Insured, then the prices they offer are based on their own schedules that may or may not conform to Blue Book. Also, Insurance is supposed to place you back into the "condition" you were in prior to an insurable event. There may have been additional benefits added on to compensate the total loss and make the Insured "whole" again.

If an Insured feels that an error was made by the Adjuster, then they can make a written request for verification. If the same total comes back, then that is what the Insurance company is "willing" to pay - so take the money and thank the Insurance company for their good service and claims benefits.

    Amazing,

Yes, I know what you mean, we have Glass's guide which serves a similar purpose.

I just found it incredible that someone should count an insurnce over-evaluation as some sort of blessing from above. And slightly distasteful too.
