I've noted on here before that one point that got my attention was the small pool of scriptures that the GB seemed to use over and over again. Leaving out all the rest. Whole swathes of Paul's werid and wonderful writings go ignored. ( i suspect its because they don't understand it)

Ok yes a JW would argue that as a cong they read the bible every week, but thats just reading it, not using it all the time.

Anyone want to have a go at guessing how many scriptures are in that pool? Anyone even have a list? theorys as to why its just the same ones?

If anything the GB shoot themselves in the foot here by getting the R&F to take notes. Taking notes means you will be writing down all the scriptures cited, if your a really good dub then you will review your notes later. And would therefore have to be blind to not see its the same ones all the time.

They are very selective, using just a phrase quite often, not even a whole verse, and always without any reference as to context.

Remember too, that what they do use comes from the twisted NWT, so may seem to support their doctrine, when really the opposite is true.

I reckon they only use a small fraction of one percent of the available verses.

When they read the bible they do so with no understanding, what a waste of all those hours of "study" and TMS etc !

Someone here on JWN with good database skills was working on studying this very issue several months ago.

I can't recall who it was or exactly when, but IIRC they were going to run some sort of script over the WT Lib CD to count how many references to each Bible verse there are in BorgLit.

I know I posted on that thread. I'll see if I can find it and bump it.

They pride themselves in using ANY scripture or set of scriptures to support their doctrines. Problem is they think that that's a good thing.

I'd say 12% LOL...they use the same ones over and over again. When a talk is given, you can almost get to the scripture before the bros. say it ,because you know just...where...its...going!

The WTS uses the scriptures that reinforce the worship of Jehovah (OT) and demphasize or ignore scriptures that focus on Jesus (NT). I would characterize their use of the Bible as being more Judeo than Christian, though they would vehemently deny that. Most of all though, JW's use scripture to support their doctrine and wield it like a weapon against their adherents to keep them controlled.

If I were to guess a percentage actually incorporated into supporting the JW theology, it is likely less than 25% of the Bible.
