Too many of these meetup groups are looking to pickup EXJWs into another religion. No thank you.

It's an ok article.
I LOVE the third video, the one at the end with Imagine as the theme music. Too bad it refers to a dead link.

I joined a meetup group in 2009. I still attend when I can. We have made a point to make sure new religons are not discussed. It is now a yahoo group due to the cost of Meetup. First Saturday of the month at Panera Bread in Tarpon Springs, FL at 10 am.

"encouraged" by whom?
Meet-up groups aren't anything new. If there's one near you I think they're good, in order to talk to others in person. They should not be used to recruit or preach to exJWs, because this is the complete opposite of what these groups are for.

Just check that it's not a front for religious groups intent on showing they've got the truth. There's nothing quite so odious as religious people coming on all hot and heavy against the JWs when, beneath the surface, there is far more in common than they could ever realize.

I love meeting up with ex-jw's - but if the purpose is to direct me to mythical beings or to read poorly written books of fantasy, then I feel somewhat conned!

I agree with Baltar and Steve. I attended a meetup a few years ago and it was a front for born again Baptists trying to convert me. Disaster!

Hey mamamo you should go to Hellas restaurant at the sponges docks right across from the dolphin fishing boat for your group meeting. Great greek salad and grouper sandwich. Then have some baklava and greek coffee for dessert. Lived in that area for over 33 years. Totally ADD
