I'm starting a new theatre group in our area...a mix of adult and young people with a community feel....I need to 'catchy' name to get it off the ground for my advertising etc. It will be done on a voluntary basis so no great costs for anyone joining. I live in an area called Swinton, but Swinton Theatre Group sounds a little 'flat' if you know what I mean?
I am relying on you wonderfully creative bunch to come up with some ideas please???? Suggestions much appreciated.

HOw about a reference to a Shakespearean character such as Shylock, Portia, Bottom, Falstaff. Something that most people know but not super obvious such as Julius Caesar or Hamlet. Chaucer. Chekhov. Beckett. Some Elizebthan sounding one.
Some reference to George Bernard Shaw. You don't say what type of works the company plans. Also, a geographical reference but not the town name. I am thiking of cos around here. Dutch Country Players. Similar to the way they name wines today. Allusions to the West End of London or Broadway.
How about something dealing with the auditioning process. I loved the Not Ready for Prime-Time Players on SNL. Second City always struck me as ho-hum. I am not very creative.
Affordable Players. Decent Players.
How about "Not Your Average Theatre Group".

Hey thank you guys...I like Heaven's too BOTR and Mr Loz defo favours it...since geographically we are in the North of England I'm currently pondering
'Northern Lights Community Theatre' as a possibility but it maybe a little long winded? I like the idea of bringing the word/idea 'community' to the fore.

Northern Songs Something to reference the most prominent north of England wayers. A cute name sways me frequently. I want both whimsy and coolness. It works with clothing, fine wines, almost anything.
Were there any Cromwellian battles in the north of England. The York ...............
I do like Not Your Average Players. Not Your Average Northern Players. or some snide remark about the South vs. the North.
I'm thinking of local groups ... knowing more about your area -- swinton in Scotland? or England? Any cool local features or experiences that you have had ...

Kipowa Showboat Theatre (used the old boat Kipowa, for their productions)
Shakespeare in the Park (okay, not too original)
Theatre Arts Guild (also kinda stodgy)
Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia (once again, name for our maritime roots)

maybe these will get you thinking about something special to your group/area ....
