Weren't they great? The unbelievable sets, costumes and choreography. The music is still around today. The one we watched today starred Ruby Keeler and Dick Powell. Or, as I told my wife, Rubies Keester and Dick's Pal. These movies were in black and white but the cinematography was dazzling.
Just watched one of those "30s Busby Berkely musicals.

Weren't they great?
well, sorry, but ,,,, NO!
I did like "A Chorus Line",,, "Mame" ... "Hello Dolly" ,,, ie, the 80's film musical revival ...
As for the older ones, I'll take "Singin' in the Rain", "Carousel" (Bob Goulet and Shirley Jones are amazing!) and "Christmas in New England" (white xmas).

These movies were the spectacles of their day. They hold up well as just that in my opinion. All the songs became standards and are imbedded in our collective musical consciousness, if you grew up with oldies on tv like I did. My dad, 83, loved the old movies and I saw them all. Thanks for your expressions. I did love those movies. We recently got TCM and are in love with it!

When I was a kid I didn't like those Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers movies my mom watched. Now I really enjoy them.
