Desperation — Personal letter to Watchtower leader

Today I uploaded a letter to my blog written in 1986 to Governing Body member Albert Schroeder. The author was, at the time, a long-time elder who had done substitute CO work and much, much more. He saw and experienced problems. He was experiencing pangs of conscience, and anxiety. He opened up and unloaded his concerns onto Albert Schroeder.

Blacklisting, reluctance to voice real opinions, abuse of power, pressure, failing of Watchtower’s established chain of communication. It’s all there and much more.

My article is titled Desperation — Personal letter to Watchtower leader and is available at: http://marvinshilmer.blogspot.com/2011/09/desperation-personal-letter-to.html

Hey Martin, do you have a response letter from the WT or the Branch? Thanks for posting the letter by the way.

MARVIN SHILMER: Thank you for posting this. I am in total agreement with this man's view and I refused to vote in favor of giving ANYTHING to the CO. People who are against college & careers deserve zero charity as far as I am concerned. How many people were harmed by following their unwise advice? And this brother was in a position to see how these people were abusing the undeserved charity of hardworking JWs. Although I would imagine that nowadays with the recession-depression we are in that the average rank and file is giving these guys the finger! I have NO use for them or the religion. Good riddance!

I think Marvin must have the keys to the Bethel archives.

Is the Brother Herd mentioned as the DO recipient of this largesse the very same Sammy, now part of the GB?

The brother who wrote that letter is the type of brother I miss in the organization. A true love for the brothers and for Jehovah God. Sadly, brothers like this have been replaced by arrogant, self-important men who are interested in moving up in order to feel important and to serve the WTBTS.

    Poor, stupid, sap.

On one hand, who doesn't understand that, in the 80s, those guys drove those cars for an extraordinary number of miles. Yeah, they were getting tapped for a new car every couple years, 'cause the cars were worn out. Duh.

And what kind of cheap bastard wants to get picky about giving money to a guy who really is living in a trailer? Living in a trailer! Somebody has to pay for these expenses, this tool acts like he's never filled out a corporate expense report before.

Sounds like this naif really thinks the CO ought to be some sort of mendicant. Of course, he thinks that because the JWs are so preoccupied with their own supposed purity that they really think they are better than everybody else. So when they see that they have to live in the real world and deal with real people, it hurts their feelings.

But all this gets us back to the original sin of the JWs: pride. They all really think they are better than everybody else in the world. Discovering that they are not really hurts.
