Living in the world for some time, the photographs of the GB with all the very old, geeky, white men seem strange. America no longer looks like that-even Mad Men has the gal copywriter. What is the story behind the black man? I would imagine he must feel very strange. How did he work his way to the GB?

You need to understand that Holy Spirit was racially prejudiced until late in the 20th Century.
