    Call for Work

The Phoenix Project, an exhibit of art and literary works that have been created by former cult members, seeks art, musical, and literary submissions for the annual conference of the International Cultic Studies Association, to be held in Montreal, July 5 -7, 2012.

If you are a former member of a cult or high demand organization, we invite you to participate in this upcoming exhibit to present art, musical, and literary (English or French) work related to your experiences while in your group or during your recovery.

If you have not yet created your work, but have had some ideas, now might be the time to bring those ideas to fruition, if you would like to bring to light the realities of your group experience for others to see.

Creations may be in any art form, including but not limited to: literary (such as poetry, drama, short story, or other writings), music of any kind, dance, and the visualarts (such as paintings, drawings, collage, sculpture, fiber arts, photography, film, video, or multi-media).

If desired, your work may be presented anonymously, or through another presenter.

This exhibit will shed light on the nature of cult and high demand organizations and their effects on individuals. Previous exhibits have demonstrated that the opportunity to present artistic works is an empowering experience for participating artists who have the opportunity to tell their own stories in their own ways.

To submit your art, literary, or other works, or for more information, please e-mail Phoenix Project Director and Coordinator Diana Pletts at: [email protected]

Diana Pletts, M.A., directs and coordinates The Phoenix Project, which provides a time and place for cult survivors to present their cult and recovery related artwork. A former member of the Path, a charismatic Christian End-Times group, she is working, herself, on the production of artwork to express her own group involvement. Diana has spoken on cult affiliation at colleges and churches, on the radio, as a speaker for Elderhostel, and at Chautauqua Institution . She lives with her husband, Dennis, in Maryland, and is Art and Literary Editor for ICSA Today. Some Phoenix Project works may be considered for publication in ICSA Today. Those interested in participating in The Phoenix Project, or in obtaining more information about the Project, are invited to e-mail her at [email protected].
