ziddina - Thanks for posting this, Barbara!!

I don't know whether it's been mentioned in newer books on the subject of cults, but several of the older books I read, mentioned a link between ANY situation causing fear and feelings of uncertainty, and a vulnerability to becoming a member of a cult...

After all, FEAR is the cults' primary tool for manipulation and indoctrination - therefore, anyone in a mental state or climate of fear, would tend to be attracted to cults - the fear would feel 'familiar'....

I am starting this thread because of ziddina's comments in the thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/217728/1/Sydney-Morning-Herald-Economic-Climate-a-Breeding-Ground-for-Cults. I was never a JW and was not attracted to the WTBTS' fear, doom-and-gloom, etc. tactics. I am curious if members of this board felt an adrelin rush from the fear that the WTBTS' promotes. I wonder if it is the same adrelin rush that some people get when they go to horror and thriller movies.

Also, I am curious if there are ways to circumvent the normal JW cult mode by feeding JWs' desire for fear to a point of emotional exhaustion when they might be more open to planting seeds of doubts, even if for a few seconds. My intial thought was sort of analogous to using electro-shock therapy to reboot a person's brain from some types of disorders. I would appreciate feed-back from members.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert
