There are so many decrees that come to mind that are opposed to ordering a bodyguard. And I'm nothing, but they who ordered bodyguards say they are God's chanel of scriptural understanding.

Band on the Run you say it was difficult then, you understand they needed a bodyguard. I do not understand it. It's bad bad bad and more bad. It is not bad that your father did it, not at all. It was bad that he was asked to do it. I think a bodyguard is someone that puts himself between danger and the one to whom the danger is conceivable.

How many rules does requesting your brother to get between yourself and danger break?

I will try this without the actual Bible first. Then I might add passages later.

Is the arm of the Lord to short to save?

Trust in JHVH with ALL your heart

Consider the others superior to yourself.

The fear of man is what lays a snare.

    Love your neighbor as yourself.

    Do not be high minded.

(I have another one but it's too long, maybe for later.)

    Become like children.

Oh and what about the rule of blood guilt? But that's their rule.

    Have no fear, little flock.

In the valley of shadow I will not fear....

Oh, I understand your point. If my father did not act and acted with others, my mom, other women, and children would have been harmed. Indeed, I witnessed a mugging in front of the World Trade Center. I was wearing heels so all I could do was scream, too. All these corporate men heard the screams. They started chasing the mugger. About 100 men joined the posse. I was very upset b/c you reach a saturatio point. There is no reason to put up with crime. The last 75 had to not even see the event. It made me feel good that a sense of community existed. I was safer. It boiled down to selfish reasons. I'd say he thought he was acting on behalf of a community. If it were only Rutherford, I'm not certain he would have risked personal harm. He despised Rutherford as a hypocrite. He did not like Nathan Knorr but it was more of a factory overseer boss/employee problem. My uncle, his best friend at Bethel and a very different type of man, also disliked Rutherford for hypocrisy. He was not discreet about his women. They were total whores in the eyes of the factory men.

I don't know. The Pope has the Swiss Guard. I don't think Jesus or Gandhi had bodyguards. Jesus restrained Peter. Perhaps Jesus restrained Peter b/c he was protecting Peter. It is true that Rutherford did not wield a cane. Much of the abuse at Bethel would end if the top figures had to live as a common worker. Let them ride subways all night. Have their food restricted.

I am glad you are telling your story Band!

    I thought of another one.

Do not fear him that can kill the body.

So, these bodyguards did not travel with the elders, but where present at Witness functions, is that correct? Do you know what your dad did when there were no functions to attend?

What it sounds like he did was watch the door like the brothers do even now, but they're not considered bodyguards.

My understanding of what a bodyguard is, is a person assigned to guard one body. Because if danger became present and the bodyguard was not assigned, then which person would he defend?

I get confused easily. I aplologize. But I like your story. Do you have more?

I have tons of stories. This all happened long before I was born. I fear most people tire of the stories. B/c of my age and the time frame, I feel it is important to bear some witness about events that occurred. My family started with Pastor Russell.

My father sat by the main door to Bethel with a rifle when tensions were high. He also did a stint at the Kingdom Farm. When he was not muscle, he worked in the factory. Knowing him from my experience, I can't believe he ever stood up to anybody for the Witnessess. It a side of him that I never knew. He barely behaved when I knew him. He was showered with affection at conventions. We would visit Bethel. He rarely even particpated in WT studies when I was around. I know these stories from my mom, not him. He would just leave his family to shnooze with Bethelites. It was embarassing in the KH. A man who fought for the Witnesses, served at Bethel for 15 years, and then does not much in the KH. I had the law laid down to me but he never conformed in my lifetime.

YOur Bible quotes are impressive. Do you have software or other reference materials? I can't even remember the words to my favorite scriptures. John 1 and Paul's quote about principalties.
