Joel, I do know someone who works there for them, but I have no idea about their level of effectiveness as a health care provider. If you have any questions, you can e-mail me at [email protected]

Someone on the board works for them or worked for them, I have emailed him with the link to this post and your email address (the one from your site I hope)in case he doesn't see this post.

In 1975 a crack team of publishers was sentenced to death by a judicial commiteee. They promptly escaped from the cult and now live life on the run. If you have a problem ... and if you can find them ... maybe you can contact the A--postate Team"

    howdy joel,

My mother had Kaiser for at least 5-7 yrs. in CA. She praised them highly (no specific reason). She developed cancer (in liver & pancreas) - and was rightly diagnosed. Her doctor was very efficient and kind to her.

Due to the nature of the cancer - within the time of being diagnosed, she was dead in about 3 months - but they were long, hard months. My sister, Patio, and my brother & his wife, and I, took turns staying with her around the clock.

She was immediately put on hospice - and they left a Tad Bit To Be Desired.

At one point, we had to take her into emergency room & they hospitalized her to hydrate her. Within 8 hrs, it worked - quite coherent in a strange incoherent way (which left a Tad Bit To Be Desired, imho.). They wanted to release her right then.

We tried to get a couple of more days (her doctor agreed), but the woman in charge of insurance & I got into a yelling match - she wanted her out of there pronto. My mother still couldn't walk, go to the bathroom, talk coherently to strangers, etc.

The social worker explained privately to me that I could actually leave her there for a couple of more days under law ..... but the Kaiser Permanente was taking the stand that my mother was not sick, she was dying. Therefore, she should be required to leave the hospital asap - as it was for sick people.

The only time she actually used the Kaiser Permanente Insurance was when she was diagnosed with deadly cancer - at that point, she was classified as dying. They did cover her morphine & infrequent doctors' visits.

    I thought it was shitty.

Perhaps you should go over to www.mpip.org, it's a bb for people who have, or have survived melanoma. They can respond with quite a bit of experience on insurance issues/companies froma great deal of first-hand knowledge.

    Here's your link:

I've heard bad things about Kaiser from a few friends of mine who were denied medically necessary surgeries for minor technical reasons. A couple fought and won on appeal another had to pay thousands out of her own pocket for her surgery and then fought and won back the money. Thats all I know about them.

It all depends on your insurance. My room-mate has had terrible expierences with them and I did to after I changed insurance. When my second son was born I had all of my prenatle care there and he was born there. I recieved excellent care. BUT at that time I had excellent insurance. They have poor doctors, fair doctors and excellent doctors. You get what your insurance will pay for.
