    I was thinking it's a good time to be alive . . .

Living on this planet has always had it's dangers. There seems to be a lot of coming and going.

When I look back over the years now, I feel good about some things. Right up there is the increase in scientific knowledge. Round the time I was born, the first dog was launched into space in Sputnik 2. Air travel was still new. Then there was the first heart transplant.

What has been learned since those days is staggeringly huge. The hubble has opened up a huge window. Archaeological finds. Advances in medicine. The increase in geological knowledge since my Uni days is really noticable. Technology has opened up new knowledge at a blinding pace. Surgical techniques have improved so much. Areas like neurology have come a long way fast.

If brain function and neurology interests you . . . check out this vid on TED . . . amazing stuff.

The internet makes it all so accessible. As long as you look in all the right places and don't get too addicted LOL.

One of the things that thrills me about living is learning all this new shit . . . you know what I mean? I want to learn as much as possible while I'm still here. It makes it feel good to be alive.

Hi sizemik - I'm with you there man. Once you're well and truly free of the Borg's influence, you start to realise how truly wonderful and breathtakingly beautiful this big old world is. Sure there are dangers, pitfalls, wrong places and wrong times etc. There are also times and places when life has true meaning, and what's more, the genuine potential that things will get a whole lot better for future generations. I love dipping into science, not with real earnest - more like a child at an all-you-can-eat buffet. I love all the stuff on space and exploration. The thought that one day we will have outposts on Mars and the Moon genuinely thrills me. The hadron collider, and the discoveries it has already yielded in its brief existence, remind one that there is a whole universe of discoveries waiting around the corner, which will in turn lead to further improvements in technology and the standard of living for all. Life is truly amazing, and should be embraced and enjoyed...

I'm with you Sizemik. I love this planet, the people, the differences, the music, but why rap music come? I know that some of our younger ones like it, and I am willing to accept it.
