I haven't been to a meeting in years and wondered about current Internet use.
If I see someone on-line is it safe to say they are no longer in the org? I don't remember there being and solid rules about this back when I was in and was just wondering?

Well, as soon as the Internet became popular the Dubs were admonished not to use it, however, as you may know, the Society has a website for quite sometime, even when they were telling us underlings not to use, go figure.

No, that would not be a safe assumption.
I found some old threads and read up a bit, I think like a lot of things it's okay, in some respects to go online, but yeah, i can't be sure they are not still in, i just found a few old members on facebook and didn't want to approach them unless they were out. There is nothing they can do to me, but I always wonder what ever happened to...

And Jehovah's Witnesses are still on Facebook, despite admonishments to avoid internet social networking at several circuit and district assemblies, as well as a recent Watchtower magazine with a computer cable throwing the shadow of a "serpent" at the "Jehovah's Witness" thinking about using the internet...
But, I think you know how the Watchtower Corporation works...

The policy is that they are supposed to use great care while online. If they are researching religion, the official washtowel site is the only one they are allowed to use. They are worried sick that porn or apostate material is going to show up on each and every page they visit--effectively, many of them are limited to checking their can of spam, the official site, and a few major news sites and shopping venues. Also, many worry that, if Brother Hounder comes in and sees you browsing L.L.Bean or something like that, you might stumble someone to think it's acceptable to be materialistic.
The computer cord/plug has been likened to a snake in WTS illustrations. Nuff said?
