    http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/12/14/9441008-landlord-fights-white-only-pool-sign-ruling

I mean, the sign COULD have said "No lotions, oils, chemicals, etc."

Not trying to inflame, but to "educate" the ignorant (i.e., those who say there is no racism "anymore"... that folks should "get over it"... or that it shouldn't be mentioned). As one who works in housing... and educates others (including new attorneys) as to Fair Housing laws, I can tell you... FOR A FACT... it's not "gone", dear ones. No matter how YOU want to view it.

    Peace to you all!

I'm confused... why would the U.S. eradicate the U.S.?

Loved the first comment underneath the article:

Yup, it was due to the hair chemicals. That is why she didn't put up a sign saying "must shower before entering pool" and opted for the much less inflammatory "white only" sign.

Seems unreal that someone would try something like that and think they wouldn't get called on it.

    Good Morning Shelby!..

I mean, the sign COULD have said "No lotions, oils, chemicals, etc."

Obviously the sign was meant to keep Black People out of the Pool..

Why else would they say White Only?..

Reminds me of the Restaurant that wouldn`t let Sylvia in because she Black..

That was over 50 years ago..

As a little girl Sylvia couldn`t walk into a restaurant and get an Ice-Cream because she was Black..

    Thats just messed up..

How do you be mean to kids because they`re Black?..

Over a Swim in the pool?..An Ice-cream cone?..

    Some people are heartless..

LOLOLOL! Sorry, dear C (peace to you!). I mean "Racism 'Finally' Eradicated"! This was probably a BETTER title, though, given that the subject oftens causes huge dissention, here. Maybe it'll cause some (who should) to by pass the thread. Sorry about that!

Yes, dear tec and OUTLAW (peace to you, both!). I have to say that I try and hold back when the subject comes up on the board and folks get all "Oh, get over it!" about it. They just don't get the "harm" it does to KIDS... who are WAY more subjected to it, still, in this country. You cannot work in housing (where is it horrifically present, even in this day and age, hence, the whole "Fair Housing" industry!)... and not see it. It is NOT obscure, by any stretch... even by landlords/managers. I have had SO many managers that I've had to say, "Wait, what?? You did/said WHAT??"

It's like people who don't want to "see" homosexuality ("Yeah, I know "it's" out there... somewhere... but if I don't see it I can convince myself it doesn't exist!"). This is often the attitude of those who live in small, rural, or otherwise isolated communities (often because they can't/don't want to "deal" with the REAL world)... but is not limited to that, by any stretch.

I just thought it was interesting that that is what popped up when I turned on my computer this morning. Given the discussions I've engaged in on it on this board...

Thank you all for your comments... and peace to you!

Wow, I can't believe a landlord did that, although I've given up trying to estimate the capacity some people have for being stupid.

In 1962 my family took a trip through the deep south. I can remember seeing the signs that said "colored restrooms at rear of building." I was eleven at the time and thought it was dumb to have all those extra bathrooms.

A few years ago a tenant in one of the buildings I worked on tried to flile a claim against us under the ADA. He claimed his "disability" was that he was racist and he had to have us kick all the black people out of the building. He also sued the VA and the housing authority who were subsidizing his rent. I don't know what they did with him, we paid him a thousand dollars to move some place else because it was cheaper than paying an attorney to fight him.

In this case, I think there's a good chance the tenant may end up owning the building.

As well as the girl with a free-ride to college! Thanks, dear Jeff (peace to you!), for the "flashback". I was born in Virginia... and remember such things long after the Civil Rights Movement had come and gone...

    Peace!
