It's just weird, because that means they were placed that way after they had died. And, I only shudder to think if they were burried alive. Not romantic at all.
I will give you this, possible-san. The only thing I find conforting about it, is if that couple remained with each other 'till death. That's how it should be. That eternal love that is never extinguished.

Well, I don't know how/why they were buried.
I only know that they have been holding hands.
Well, a Japanese proverb is as follows.
"Shouja hitsumetsu, Esha jouri."
This is a word in the sutra (a Buddhist scripture, the NEHAN sutra).
This meaning is as follows, if this word is translated into English.
"All that lives must die (The first breath is the beginning of death). And in this world, we meet only to part (The best of friends must part)."
If I was that man, I would think that I was probably glad.
