I haven't been to a meeting in years but always thought about going back. I can't go back now that I realize that I was raised in a cult. I can't go to church because I have been brainwashed that it's false religion.

They were always boring and so long. I use to go when they were 2 hours long and always ran over 1/2 hour. Always watching the clock in the back wondering when is this going to end. I'm older now, I thought I might get some spiritual uplifting but I no longer believe it's the truth. I don't know what to believe.

I live in an area where there are churches everywhere, I guess because I live so far down south in the US so I just went to church with my husband (he's never been a JW) and I was scared about going for a long time but then we switched to a more modern church and I feel more comfortable there than at a KH so I think it has to do with your mindset. Do you have religious friends (non-Witness I mean)? Maybe trying to go where they worship. Do you still believe in JW teachings? Just start researching different religions and their beliefs and attend where you feel most comfortable.
I commend you for still feeling like you need a place to worship God, I'm on my way to converting to Christianity (I'm non-denominational who happens to go to a baptist temple) but it's up to you where you go. Good luck, I hope you find someplace you feel enjoy going to. :)

Why not "worship" within the "temple" of God, dear enda (peace to you!)?
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ " Acts 17:24-27
"Do you not realize that all of you together are the temple of Godand that the Spirit of God lives in you?"1 Corinthians 3:16
"... nor shall they say, Lo, here; or lo, there; for lo, the kingdom of God is within you." Luke 17:21
"If anyone loves me, they will obey me. Then my Father will love them, and we will come to them and live in them." John 14:23
"You are no longer ruled by your desires, but by God's Spirit, that lives in you. People who don't have the Spirit of Christ in them don't belong to him. But Christ lives in you. So you are alive because God has accepted you, even though your bodies must die because of your sins. Yet God raised [Jesus] to life! God's Spirit now lives in you, and he will raise you to life by his Spirit. My dear friends, we must not live to satisfy our desires. If you do, you will die. But you will live, if by the help of God's Spirit you say "No" to your desires. Only those people who are led by God's Spirit are his children. God's Spirit doesn't make us slaves who are afraid of him. Instead, we become his children and call him our Father. God's Spirit makes us sure that we are his children. His Spirit lets us know that together with Christ we will be given what God has promised. We will also share in the glory of Christ, because we have suffered with him." Romans 8:9-17
"As bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children. But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give Holy Spirit to anyone who asks." Luke 11:13
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened." Matthew 7:7
I hope this helps and, again, peace to you!
A slave of Christ,

I can't go to church because I have been brainwashed that it's false religion.
Why not go against your brainwashing and try it? Prove your brainwashing either right or wrong finally. Get some closure on it.
If you seek spirituallity, there are those that feel the best way to experience it is in a group. That's why I like going to different churches. (I'm not even sure I actually believe in god anymore but I enjoy the connection).
I soon found out that the Watchtower Coropration had LIED to me about the Churches. They are much friendlier than kingdom halls! You go into a KH as a stranger and they don't know if they should welcome you, shun you, 'place litrature'(TM) with you or fight over who's gonna study with you. Not so in a church!
I don't know where you are but in the UK the Baptists have a good reputation. Plenty of ex JWs too.
If you are the kind of person who is a loner, I'm sure there are many ways of seeking spirituality.
Either way you need to decide what type of worship floats your boat. You are blessed with a choice like a free buffet!

What about collection plates? Or is this a myth as well?

What do you mean about collection plates? My church has a basket that a guy holds by the door, if you want to put in money you can, if not, you don't have to and no one looks at you funny at all. It's basically a walking contribution box. No one forces you to put in money if you don't want to.

I am sorry you feel the need to go anywhere to worship. There is no God so you are worshipping the air, unless it is a Catholic Church in which case you will bow down to a piece of wood which represents the imaginary God. Think of it this way, the truth has set you free and so why put yourself in another religion's bondage. Or you can go the route of AGuest and invent your own.
