I read the book. It is the most sobering book I've read in my life. It was very popular during the Viet Nam War. Depressing is an understatement. Dalton Trumo delivered.

I managed to watch this movie when I was younger. I'd seen the "One" video from Metallica, so I knew it from sight. I was never aware it was a book, but now I must hunt it down.
I was a child who didn't understand war or politics or even making kissy face with girls, but I knew depression, isolation, and helplessness. This movie clicked with me but I've never been able to find it on video or dvd.

Evidently, there are two Johnny Got HIs Gun films. Unless I have a title confused, Dalton Trumbo, a blacklister writer with antiwar sentiments, wrote the most chilling book I ever read. It had a cult status during the Viet Nam War. Sometime after the 60s, a film was made. I never saw it b/c I could not believe a film would capture the chilling nature of the book. It is the best antiwar book to which I've been exposed.
