Do you think Jerry & Pat should go to Bethel?

I read something a bit shocking and wanted to pass it on to you to view for yourself.

Doctor Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson had a exchange on the 700 Club that implyied that terrorist attacks against the US were deserved, and the result of divine judgment. When I went on to read what they had to say, I just couldn't help but think that these guys should be working for the Watchtower.

The entire transcript of the 13 Sep 2001 conversation between Falwell and Robertson can be found on the People For The American Way web site: http://www.pfaw.org/issues/liberty/robertson_falwell.shtml I quoted part of it here:

FALWELL: ....And I agree totally with you that the Lord has protected us so wonderfully these 225 years. And since 1812, this is the first time that we've been attacked on our soil, first time, and by far the worst results. And I fear, as Donald Rumsfeld, the Secretary of Defense said yesterday, that this is only the beginning. And with biological warfare available to these monsters; the Husseins, the Bin Ladens, the Arafats, what we saw on Tuesday, as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if, in fact, if in fact God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.

ROBERTSON: Jerry, that's my feeling. I think we've just seen the antechamber to terror. We haven't even begun to see what they can do to the major population.

FALWELL: The ACLU's got to take a lot of blame for this.

    ROBERTSON: Well, yes.

FALWELL: And, I know that I'll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen'.

ROBERTSON: Well, I totally concur, and the problem is we have adopted that agenda at the highest levels of our government. And so we're responsible as a free society for what the top people do. And, the top people, of course, is the court system.

FALWELL: Amen. Pat, did you notice yesterday? The ACLU, and all the Christ-haters, the People For the American Way, NOW, etc. were totally disregarded by the Democrats and the Republicans in both houses of Congress as they went out on the steps and called out on to God in prayer and sang 'God Bless America' and said 'let the ACLU be hanged'. In other words, when the nation is on its knees, the only normal and natural and spiritual thing to do is what we ought to be doing all the time- calling upon God.

    ROBERTSON: Amen....

Hmmm, anyone have any Bethel applications left laying around for these two guys to enlist with?

1812? what about Pearl harbor? Did I miss something...?

In 1975 a crack team of publishers was sentenced to death by a judicial commiteee. They promptly escaped from the cult and now live life on the run. If you have a problem ... and if you can find them ... maybe you can contact the A--postate Team"

I'm not surprised at these comments... these guys have been ranting for years now. I think ANYTHING in the extreme should be avoided like the plague!!!! Yes, they of all people should know better, but they're too taken up with their own power to recognize how absolutely UN-Christlike they are! Just my 2 cents! : )

These guys seem to have forgotten that the terrorist attacks were carried out by religious fundamentalists, of whom Falwell and Robertson are just a different flavor.

If anyone is to blame, it is religious fanatasizm and intollerance.

    Skipper,
Yeah well Falwell doesn't have the greatest track record, he is often "misunderstood." Like the time he said that only African Americans and woman are God's chosen minorities Or when he said that Tinky Winky from the popular children's cartoon is really implanted from the gay community. Beware of anything purple that carries a purse it is an instrument of satan the debil himself.

Here is the "retraction" he posted on his site after the above comments you posted were misunderstood by 99% of Americans

I obviously did not state my theological convictions very well and I stated them at a bad time. During the difficult weeks ahead there will be much discussion about the judgment of God. It is a worthy discussion for all of us at a time when we are reminded of the fleeting nature of life itself, but it is a complicated discussion.

I do not know if the horrific events of September 11 are the judgment of God, but if they are, that judgment is on all of America--including me and all fellow sinners--and not on any particular group.

My statements were understandably called divisive by some, including those whom I mentioned by name in the interview. This grieves me, as I had no intention of being divisive.

In conclusion, I blame no one but the hijackers and terrorists for the barbaric happenings of September 11.

We know, as Abraham Lincoln anguished in his second inaugural address, that "The Almighty has his own purposes," but as he said, "The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether."

So if the Sept 11th attack was actually from God as a divine judement for all sinners, God would do so by killing just 6000 people? Then he goes on to say he is grieved because he did not mean to be divisive. Oh Puleeze! I have no comment for that haha. Then he mentions Abraham Lincoln, who some feel a fine upstanding president, and tries to liken himself that him? Bah his whole attitude sickens me, I think he is one of the biggest racist in America and hides behind the name of god.

As for Mr. Roberts haha he had his own little retraction as well. here it is

...Rev. Falwell's initial remarks were completely in accord with what had been said in preceding parts of the program, and then, unexpectedly, he uttered a political statement of blame directed at certain segments of the population that was severe and harsh in tone, and, frankly, not fully understood by the three hosts of The 700 Club who were watching Rev. Falwell on a monitor.

...Rev. Falwell has issued a pointed clarification of his statement, and Dr. Robertson said on Fox News' The Edge that he considered the remarks "totally inappropriate." He does not wish to comment further...

So I guess he goes around and "Totally concurs, "Amens" and "Agrees" with people he does not understand. Weasels.
