LOTR was filmed in several locations in NZ. Perhaps if you check out the multitude of LOTR web-sites, you'll find the locations.

One of the sets was on a hill near my home. Had to drive past it every day on the way to work. The locations were all over New Zealand.

BTW Pope NZ isn't backward - It's unspoiled! If you want to argue I recomend you go there!
