Well, this sure isn't the Mars Hill of Rob Bell / Love Wins.
On the advice of my editor I'm doing some research for an article on Mars Hill. They rent space at the building my wife works in. Scary bunch of people in my opinion.
They as scary and culty as JDubs ??
I have been to this church when a workmate passed and the funeral was there. It was a little weird because the walls are all black. I don't remember the sermon. I have a friend that goes there and I want to talk to her. I am constantly amazed at people giving their personal power to some egocentric control freak. People ignore that little voice in your head and the next thing you know you are shooting coolaid down their babies throat.
I haven't ever physically visited this church, but have been lately watching quite a few of Mark Driscoll's sermons on the church website. He can be a very persuasive and emotional pastor and uses the Bible frequently. If possible, it's basically a mix of an old-school Calvinist/Reformation (Driscoll even named his kids after Calvin and friends) church with a liberal 'relaxed/hip' bent.
