This is a excellent video about the development complex neuro-circuits. Well worth watch all the way through. I remember that along with the eye, synapses were often quoted as an example of irreducible complexity by JW's and other creationists, from 4:38 on this video there is a great explanation of why this is not so. I remember the JWs saying we only use 30% of our brains, likening them to supercomputers.......
As an ex-neuro nurse, I argued this was immpossible......we use ALL of our brains, everyday, if we didnt, neurons would simply die off.
Where do they get this stuff from??
I remember being told it was less than 1% and the rest was there for memory, waiting to be filled up in the new system!
I beleive the statistic for brain useage is 10%.
I saw a show a while back that said that only parts of our brain were active at one time (albiet a lot more than 10%), if all of our brain was active at once, it would be like an epileptic seizure.

The reality is if we didn't use 99% of our brain we'd simply die. Our bodies work off of electrical and chemical signals, if our brain didn't work at capacity the electro-chemical signals would stop and no longer tell our organs to function or our glands to secrete essential hormones (chemicals); life would cease.
Urban myth.. We use all of our brain... the amount of patterns doesnt have to deal with potential.. we all have the same potential it has to do with how and how much we use it.
How this turned into a discussion about how much we utillise our brains I really don't know!! Saying that, yes it is an urban myth perpetuated by ignorance that we only use 10%.
