We knew quite a few women and babies from Africa with horriffic scarring from husbands who had deliberately set them alight. These weren't JW but it is common for this to happen when a man no longer wants his wife or children over there.

The same custom used to present in Indian, where a dead husband was accompanied by his wife on his pyre. The ancient egyptians sometimes did the same adding the household of the important person with the emtombed dead man. Given the Hebrews were neighbours its not hard to imagine they too copied this custom. After all we see many scriptures talking about fire and death.

Unfortunately, this type of savage thing happens all of the time over there. It is just sick. They also have a practice which they call "Necklacing" where they take a rubber tire filled with gasoline, and put it over the victim before lighting it.
