Bearing in mind that every experience in the Watchtower has some kind of agenda behind it , what about this experience of a London girl going to Ireland to preach & have a holiday. I was just waiting for the inevitable "I came home & passed all my exams with flying colours." but it didn't say.

And what kind of responsible parent would take a child on holiday so that she could " take her mind off her exams."

“Y OU need a challenge to take your mind off your exams,” said my parents. “Let’s

go and visit your cousins in Ireland and share in preaching to people who rarely hear the

good news of the Kingdom.” I didn’t think it was a good idea. Besides

studying for my exams, I felt nervous about the journey."

The kind of parent that is a deluded cult victim and really believes that her daughter's long-term interests are best served by the J W "ministry" than by getting a decent job. No doubt she would support her in her "Pioneering " if she does it, and be glad for it.............

We have all known plenty like that

I could understand it if she was just waiting for her results, but the indication is tha she was still studying for them.

Remember NOTHING is more important than field circus and pious-sneering.

There aren't any JWs in Ireland? Or they're really slack about going out in field service?

Reminds me of this one Assembly experience where a brother had an exam the day after the Assembly. At first he wanted to skip the Assembly so he could study, but his mom reminded him to put "God" first. So he ended up going to the Assembly and still receieved the highest grade on the exam.

There's something about these experiences that don't always add up.

There are some, but very few. I suspect the Irish have spent so long being controlled by the clergy that they're very reluctant to put themselves under the control of one more organisation that sees itself as God's mouthpiece.

Speaking personally, I know how they feel.

Funny, this made me think about this young fella in our congregation who missed a lot of meetings because he had to study for exams. His parents always bragged about his Chemistry grades.

    He is now selling shoes.

He is good at picking the shoe polish for the shoes. I guess that chemistry did him good.

From the same article . .

". . and I took the ferry to tiny Heir Island, home to fewer than 30 people. Jesus did say that the

good news must be preached in

    all the inhabited earth!"

Hope her exam wasn't in geography!

One of the signs that religion is getting out of control is when it interferes with work or school. Pious-sneering when you have tests is one prime example--I would classify this as the religion becoming an addiction, or an idol (which the Washtowel supposedly specifically prohibits). Some of the other signs are excessive or compulsory church attendance or Bible study, excessive missionary work or evangelism, contributing beyond your means, and feeling guilty when you have to cut back on church functions or you miss a function.

When it gets worse, it leads to worse problems. People affected begin to hate others for not believing what they believe, they only watch religious programs or listen to religious "music" (especially serious when they only watch or listen to programs from their own religion), the "smiley mask" where they deny their feelings (not to be confused with the "I'm learning something new" or the self-righteousness feelings, which will fade in time), and they are not able to take personal credit. They can lose their jobs for prosyletizing (or because their religions make excessive demands on their time).( http://see_the_truth.webs.com/BreakingFree.html for the source of this information)

I would suggest that, if anyone is going to pious-sneer despite its causing them to flunk a major exam, they really need to break free from religion and soon. I suggest visiting the above web site--cut and paste to your browser if necessary--and reading more of the symptoms that your religion has gotten too much control of your life.
