How Far Will They Go?

It's getting scary. I think the Society is cautious enough (legal, legal) to avoid saying or doing anything too radical, even in the "Kool-Aid" Watchtower.

but individual Witnesses are another story!

Good God! The ones I know will put a chill up your spine! The older sister who is 'waiting' for her (dead) husband ( uh, and that ressurection marriage thing?). The one who eagerly hopes oil prices will somehow trigger Armageddon. The many, many, who keep making bold remarks about how 'it won't be much longer now'.

I swear sometimes I think the Governing Body could tell them ( a Body Of Elders letter, of course), "Dear Suckers, It was all crap, you're screwed and we've got all your money! F**k You Very Much" ('Your Brothers') - and they'd just ignore it, like it never happened.

The only guidance I recall in this regard is something I learned at Bethel. The guys who drank and swore a little and told bad jokes and chased sisterly tail were real. Many of them ended up as elders and such. However, the self righteous types who proclaimed their belief ostentatiously ALWAYS CRACKED UP, BROKE DOWN or just suddenly gave up and left -( and right now, such types seem dominant.)

I privately concluded that they were trying to convince themselves of whatever fanatical crap they talked about. I also noted that girls who said "I'm not looking to get married" were usually horny and lying.

Such is human nature. But I still wonder what it will take to get them out of their zombie-like stupor or how far they might go while deceived. The real horror of Jehovah's Witnesses presently is that they are shunning and abandoning family members who would be their only hope or support, should the Organization fail.

I hope I wasn't the 'self-righteous type,' but I was a true believer that cracked up, broke down, gave up and left. As a fader, I try to set a decent example of how someone can walk away from it and get on with a good life, get an education, be happy, and hopefully marry a younger hottie and still have a family later in life.

At this point, I think a lot of them would drink kool-aid laced with cyanide if it was presented as "New Light" in triggering Armageddon.

    How Far Will They Go?

As far as the all-mighty a-hole jayhoover tells them to.

They will march to their graves, one-by-one, believing it to be the truth.

The baby boomers make up the backbone of the org right now , they were the ones when faced with 1975, looked the other way at the horrific accident and marched on. What is there once they age another 20 years? They will all be dead, or elderly.

There is nothing to back them up. 70% of their kids left, leaving the 30% who go through the motions to keep their parents happy. Expect more of that 30% to leave as their parents die off. They are already suffering for elders and servants. So what do they do? Here is what happened to me.

I was "appointed by Holy Spirit" though my hours weren't that great as an MS, I watched porn occasionally, and like to hit the bar pretty hard at least once a month. Sure the elders didn't know all of that, though a couple at least knew about the bars. But they were so desperate to lower their work load, and I was a good speaker. Voila! LG has been appointed by infallable spirit of Jah.

Sure it was a bit of a rush to get that secret elders book, and hang out in secret back room meetings. That wore off in about 90 days though, then its just a big fat burden to be an elder. Within a year I knew something was seriously wrong in the b0rg, and was starting to find my way out.

So how many elders are now seeing things like this ridiculous "confidentiality" letter and thinking "Something stinks here, I can't do jack shit without calling mother for direction." I promise you, quite a few are noticing this tone from HQ, and don't like it at all. There is little to no payoff anymore when it comes to being an elder. Even if they aren't awake to doctinal issues, they just say "F*** it, I'm gonna go back to being Joe Publisher so I can at least enjoy my family on the weekends"

I think most JW's fall into the first catagory you described, probably 80%. They have their secret sins, they just want to indulge occasionally, not get caught, put in their 6 to 8 hours of FS, miss a few meetings if possible without being called out on it. The other 20% are the nut jobs, they stay in til they die making hell for everyone else, or they crack up like mentioned.
