We sure do attack the crazy ones, dont we? I studied Russian history fifteen years ago, my mind is blank right now, there was a group of radical Russian cult members during "Peter the Great" time, who threw themselves into fire, burning themself and their children. What were their names?

" Self-proclaimed ‘God' sets himself ablaze in Russia

Moscow, April 23 (IANS) A man in Russia, proclaiming to be "God", set himself ablaze and landed in hospital in a critical condition with 70 percent burns, RIA Novosti reported.

A member of the Jehovah's Witnesses sect, the set himself on fire Monday in the Moscow region, police said.

The incident occurred in the village of Nakhabino, 33 km outside Moscow after the man bought fuel, poured it onto himself and set himself ablaze.

"According to the son of the injured man, his 43-year-old father had been a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses and considered himself to be God," the police said.

Investigators are probing the cause of the man's suicide attempt.

The Jehovah's Witnesses, with some seven million followers worldwide and over 200,000 in Russia, have been banned in a number of Russian regions and in some former Soviet republics.

The sect is banned in China, North Korea, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, among other countries.

At first I tought this was from a Moscow newspaper but then saw it was the Times of India, which is reputable.

I particularly enjoyed the comments; e.g.

"This sect is actually evil and a cult. its demonic in its origin and deceit lies all round it!"

    I'm not arguing.

Hi Chariklo, India can turn on Christians pretty easily, Hinduism still contains the caste system, "honor killings" exist, so we have to take their assesment of JWs with a grain of salt. JWs don't "honor kill" or attack with weapons Mormons, Fundamentals or other types of Christians.

    Hi Bubblegum,

JW's don't honour kill or attack with weapons. They don't need to.

Their psychological weapons are quite deadly enough.

Chariklo, that is why you are here, to undo and untangle the webs tied around their eyes! Men like Randy, Cedars and woman like Blondie, NewChapter and many others are helping unturn deeply entrenched ideas! Peace!

perhaps he thought that if he didn't burn it would be proof of his godship?

One can only wonder what must be going on in the mind to set fire to oneself.

    I don't altogether understand, Bubblegum.

I came here in total shock at what JW's had done to me. Yes, this is a very healing place. I'm still damaged by them to some extent.

The Times of India is indeed a reputable newspaper. Yes, India contains an enormous variety of people and belief systems. Some may indeed be anti-Christian, many are not. It is a very spiritual country, using the word "spiritual" in an entirely non-JW and more universally acceptable sense. By and large, education is of high quality. and this I know is not true of so many millions of the poor, in a country in which 17.5% of the world's population live. But the Times of India is a very good newspaper, with largely unbiased journalistic standards, free of propaganda, much more than can be said of some countries dominated by media influences like those of the Murdochs of this world.

    That's what I meant.
