Witnesses repeat the promises of a "New World" like a mantra,
but can never really appreciate what 'perfection' would offer
in real life.
Do Witnesses rejoice when world peace moves forward, when
weapons are reduced, when prejudice declines, or crime decreases?
Or do they get depressed, realizing that the grand Armageddon
slaughter of their neighbors seems delayed again?
Do Witnesses speak of a future without greed and materialism
- and then wreck food distribution at conventions permanently
by grabbing all they can and forget the contribution box?
Do Witnesses find joy in news of science offering cures of
every ailment in the future? Do they even evince any interest
in such a prospect of seeing 'the nuts and bolts' of physical
perfection appear? Are they perhaps dependent on ailments
and 'comfortable' with their personal sicknesses such that
they wouldn't know what to do with perfect health?
Do Witnesses speak of a future in which individual conscience
reigns supreme - while handing over all present thinking ability
about moral issues to the Watchtower Society, Inc.? Do they promise
a "whithering of the state", like Communism, while going in the
opposite direction?
A wise clergyman once said
"We are trying to give everlasting life
to people who don't know what to do with them selves
on a Sunday afternoon."
That sums it up pretty well
